Over 2.5 million people fly in and out of airports every day. In 2016, 40 billion pounds of goods were transported. Annually, aviation supports 10.6 million jobs. These are few of the reasons how aerospace power contributes to the commerce of the United States. Aerospace is incredibly vital to society nowadays. From employment to transportation, to the United State’s economy, it is essential.

Tourism is becoming one of the world’s largest industry’s and this is directly correlated to airplanes becoming a necessity in the 21st century. Planes every day are flown across the world with millions of people ending up in a place they weren’t before. Today you can take a flight from New York to Los Angeles in 6 hours. Now, imagine 50 years ago when flying wasn’t very popular and you’d have to take a 5-day car trip. The invention of airpower and it being used mainstream is one of the most convenient inventions of the past hundreds of years. People can get to where they want, faster, easier, and safer.

People aren’t the only thing that airpower is helping. For the American economy, aviation contributes 5% of our gross domestic product. Goods are transported daily to deliver things from medicine to clothes. Countries trade with each other when they do not have the resources they need. Those trade are executed by airpower when you bring those goods onto a plane and they’re flown over to the certain country. On a normal ship, it could take weeks to get from one place to another and by reducing that time, more money is made and more people are satisfied.

Although it may not be thought of as a producer of jobs, aviation is crucial to the employment of our country. There are a lot of moving parts inside an airport and when the United States has nearly 20,000 of them, you can imagine how many people it takes to make it all work. Air traffic controllers, radar controllers, and airway system specialists are just a few of the very important jobs that employ millions of people. Without these workers, not as many planes could take off, airports would shut down, people couldn't fly and it would ultimately lead toward a downfall of the business.

The President of Boeing, Dennis Muilenburg, once said, “Aerospace services represents one of our biggest growth opportunities for the future.” Aerospace becoming mainstream is a huge step forward for the entire world. In the future, technology will continue to improve which for this reason, airpower will be even more relied on for transportation and for commerce going forward.
