“Studies show that if your child’s father is affectionate, supportive, and involved, he can contribute greatly to your child’s cognitive, language, and social development, as well as academic achievement, a strong inner core resource, sense of well-being, good self-esteem, and authenticity”, Quoted by Dr. Gail Gross. Today, the father’s role is more than providing for the family but, to nurture and discipline to help give their children an embody perspective towards their life. And studies proved that a father can create a huge difference in the overall personality of the child.
First, Studies showed that children with involved can better tolerate stress and frustration, are better at problem solving, and have better control over their emotions and impulses. Those early patterns of interaction with father are the very patterns that will be projected forward into all relationships. For Girls, they will look for patterns of their father, for example if their father was kind and loving, they will look for those characteristics in other men. They will also look for what they have experienced during childhood in others. They have gotten use to those historic behavioral pattern, because they think it will probably be easier to handle in relationships.
Next, for boys they will recognize their fathers as role models. They will always look for their fathers approval, and copy their behavior that they view it as both inspiring and successful. For example, If their father was abusive, controlling, and dominating, those are the patterns that they will imitate; but if the father was loving, supportive, and protective, their sons will want to become that. Usually, human beings are like social animals because, we learn by modeling others’ behavior. In fact, children learn how to survive and function successfully in the world through social imitation. Those early patterns of interaction are all children know, and it is those patterns that effect how they feel about themselves, and how they develop.
Finally, Fathers will create minor obstacles in an attempt to teach their kids the harsh challenges in the world. By challenging the abilities of the child, they prepare them to be mentally stronger. We live in a world where the popular motto is “Survival of the Fittest” first quoted by Herbert Spencer, but created by Charles Darwin. Fathers can contribute to the economy if they help their kids grow up with an competitive attitude towards life, because studies show if the father shows keen interest in their children studies, then their children will be better in their academic life.
To conclude, the father’s role in the household is more then providing for the family. A father’s nurturing presence can continue to benefit children and help them handle the world better mentally, socially, and emotionally as they grow up. Fathers will build a competitive spirit in their children. And fathers’ engage in their children education will help them do better in school.
