To begin, there are many social and economic issues that are taking place around our world today. For example, one issue would be gun control laws. Since almost 1/4 of our nation’s population has possession of a gun, it is questioned on whether or not if gun control laws should be increased. This topic has multiple pros and cons. Two of the main arguments against increased gun control laws are one; the laws created for gun control does not discourage crime, and two; the laws created for gun control violate a human’s right to protect themselves. To be more specific, over a span of 29 years where specific weapons were forbidden, the numbers of murders didn’t decrease. Instead, it stayed about the same. On the other hand, states who had stricter gun control laws had more numbers in murders. These murders were all firearm associated. Next, many people use guns to protect themselves. In fact, self defense by firearm has been used over a million times per year. Since authority can’t provide safety to everyone 24/7, people have confirmed that the more the restrictions, the less safety they can provide to themselves and others. On the other hand, two of the main arguments for increased gun control laws are one; the increased laws created for gun control would prevent firearm deaths, and two; it would also insure safety for women in specific situations (domestic abusers). To go into detail, many people will use a firearm when it comes to harming themselves or others. In fact, over the span of 14 years, over 400 thousands people have died from firearms. Strict laws would prevent this from occurring. Next, stricter guns laws can prevent females from being killed by an abuser. With firearms being present during violent home arguments, a female’s percentage rate of being a victim goes up to 500%. With stricter laws, females can be insured their safety during violent disputes. Overall, the increase of gun control laws has many positives and negatives.
Next, another issue that is taking place in society is the death penalty. Over a span of 19 years over 1,000 humans have been executed due to their crimes. Since people are being put up for execution, this raises the question on whether or not death penalty should be permitted. This topic has multiple pros and cons. Two of the main arguments against authorizing death penalty are one; the action is likely disobeying the banning of torture act, and two; the death penalty is claimed to have no result. To be more specific, Hussein stated that execution methods can cause so much suffering, that it can easily disobey the nation’s human rights law and the banning of torture act. By permitting the death penalty, the State is going against laws and acts that they are suppose to follow. Next, the death penalty is said to lower specific crimes amongst others, but that is not true. Studies have shown that the results of death penalty don’t stop or lower the amounts of murder. The number of victims are still about the same rate. On the other hand, two main arguments for authorizing death penalty are one; it allows victims get their justice and fairness they want, and two; the death penalty will stop those from continuing to commit crimes. To be more specific, many people are survivors of horrific events. Death penalty is how they get past their trauma. It’s how they heal since they know the one who caused them pain is gone. Schubert states that if a person was in prison, families would still be nervous and scared. The reason why is because prisoners sentences can always reduce.
Next, Trump stated that the death penalty should be allowed because it will stop people from continuing to commit the same horrible crimes. For example, the humans who murdered multiple officers won’t do it ever again since they would’ve gotten the death penalty. It may not prevent all crime in general, but it will stop crimes being committed by the same person. Overall, authorizing the death penalty has many positives and negatives.
Next, death penalty and gun control laws can be very controversial. Everyone has their own set of beliefs. If I were to answer the question on whether or not gun control laws should be increased, I would agree with the side that is for increased control. Gun control issues are very imperative in our society because guns can have a very dramatic effect on people's lives. For example, if guns are used improperly, people can die or get seriously injured. In fact, every day about 5 females are murdered by firearm. By having increased gun control laws, we can stop more injuries and deaths that have yet to come. On the other hand, if I were to answer the question on whether or not the death penalty should be authorized, I would agree with the side that is against permitting death penalty. Our nation should not authorize or continue the death penalty. The death penalty issue is very important because it’s a matter of life or death. The results of the death penalty are permanent and irreversible. Things can’t be changed once the action is performed. In fact, many states agree with prohibiting the death penalty. A total of only 19 states ban this cruel punishment. Both of these issues can have serious consequences and results. Death penalty and gun control laws are critical to society because they play a major role in today’s issues.
