American football has been around for a very long time, But now football seems to be disappearing. Some schools don't have a football program anymore and it’s frustrating. Not only is it frustrating for coaches that use up there time to run a team and all of a sudden it disappears, The students are being affected by it too, because that’s what they want to do with their time and it was taken away from them in the blink of an eye. I know parents take a part in this matter because they don’t let their children play. I understand it’s a rough sport, you can get seriously hurt and that’s a parent’s worst nightmare is for their kid to get hurt. But parents should let their children have the opportunity to play football, because it has many health benefits and is very rewarding while playing.
To begin I say Parents should allow their children to play football because there are many health benefits to playing, first cardiovascular health. When playing football and exercising the risk of coronary artery disease is reduced by 50%. The reason for this is while you are exercising you are controlling high blood pressure, losing excess weight and lowers the risk of getting type 2 diabetes which can all cause coronary artery disease and when you get this disease the artery walls are blocked by plaque buildup. A second health benefit would be your lungs and it’s important to keep them healthy. “Lungs at rest and during daily activities are only at 50% of their capacity”. When you participate in football your lung capacity increases as you are running and have to take in more oxygen. So the capacity of your lungs increases anywhere from 5-15% which is healthier for you. Finally one last health benefit is muscle growth. Playing football and growing muscle is like having human rights, you automatically have rights. So when play football you automatically start growing muscle. In conclusion the reason you start automatically growing muscle and I compare it to having rights is because when you’re playing you’re not just running around your also hitting which builds up muscle automatically.
Another reason parents should let their children play football, it can be rewarding in many ways. First of all you can have a future career. High School players have a 5. 8% chance of making it to NCAA football and 2%of NCAA players make it to the NFL. Even though the chances are very slim a kid that plays has a better chance than a kid that doesn’t and might miss out the opportunity if they can’t play, just another reason a parent should let them try it out. Second of all another rewarding factor is camaraderie. Say this guy named Gregory doesn’t have any friends and when he gets to school and decides to join a football team, he eventually starts to make friends on the team and they become really close to each other and have a strong friendship throughout their lives. This means when you play football you make a ton of friends and eventually you play together for so long you start to have a strong bond and that bond can last for a lifetime. If this guy never played football he might still be hanging around at school with no friends just cause his parents said he couldn’t play.
Above all one last reward you can get while playing football is lifetime memories. I started play football in the first year of high school and have already have so many good memories from playing. Some of the memories I have are during practice but the best memories I had was winning the first ever junior boys football championship with the team. All and all when you play football you can have many amazing memories like this but also have a chance at a career and make a ton of friends along the way.
Finally parents should let their children play football just because you will stay healthy make a lot of friends, have chances to have a career in football and most of all have amazing memories for your entire life about the sport. I know I’ve gotten healthier but what I love most about the sport are the memories and having fun while playing the sport of football. I say why not let your child give it a try, I know I love it and if they really want to play they will probably love it too. So why not let them try?
