The Musical Interpretation of The Film 'Pretty Woman'

Edward is a successful businessman who hires sex worker Vivian. They front a fake relationship which doesn’t require emotional attachment (sexual connection only). Edward showers Vivian with anything that money can buy and, in return, she serves him sexually. As the story goes, Edward and Vivian are able to discover many things about themselves and, according to the article of the New York Theatre Guide, the two unknowingly rescue each other from their worlds. Edward’s connection with Vivian allows him to let go of the suffocating world he’s in, while Vivian is able to transform into something that is more than her work. 

The powerhouse cast and creatives the acclaimed artist Samantha Barks who performed as Eponine in the film adaptation of Les Miserables together with Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, and Anne Hathaway is playing the role of Vivian Ward. According to the website of Pretty Woman the Musical, Samantha Barks received various awards from different award-giving bodies like the Breakout Award from Glamour magazine, the Best Female Newcomer from the Empire Awards, and a nomination for Young British Performer of the Year by the London Critics Circle. Andy Karl who was just recently awarded an Olivier Award is playing the role of the businessman Edward Lewis. He is also known for his work in the independent film Faraway Eyes with Christina Ricci and as a comedy pilot in Staties. According to the musical’s website, Andy Karl won a Drama Desk award and three Tony Award nominations.
