The Need for Female Contribution in The Formulation of The Philosophies of Crime Studies

Criminology theories are phenomena that explain why people commit crime and the situations that make them commit the said crime. Most theories that explain criminology were designed by men. However, some scholars came up with theories that believe in the fact that women could have designed better theories. This paper looks into the theories that were designed to show how women could have made better theories.

The Routine Activity Theory is the only theory that focuses more on the opportunities provided by criminals than the behavior that is provided within this theory. This theory suggests that one thing leads on to another, and with all the components incorporated together the need to commit a crime arises and the criminal does so. If the chance is presented to a criminal, he not only needs the willingness to do so, but also the target should avail itself. This theory can affect the work place in several ways. A criminal may have a chance to steal, cause violence, and commit various other crimes. Theft is common in the workplace because if anyone loses something, it is easy for another person to take advantage of an item lying out in the open with nobody attending to it and pick it. This theory suggests that someone might not be deviant, but if the chance to steal or commit a crime presents itself, one may be tempted to take advantage of the situation. If this theory was to be designed by women, then there could be more complex ideas in it since it is women who carry lots of stuff to the offices.

Routine Activity Theory also says that for a crime to take place there must be motivated offenders, gullible targets and the absence of capable custodians of persons or property. Since most women have full time job, the motivated criminals may know the place and activity they are doing giving them an idea of when to commit crimes (Siegel, 2015).

The criminal justice system has for long ignored the role of women due to gender discrimination in America. The dominance of women by mainstream has put them in the forefront where their expectations were deceptive to their treatment. Because of their sexual orientations, feminists are at greater jeopardy for crimes such as sexual assault, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. Among females, the most widespread conduits to crime are grounded on endurance of abuse and poverty According to Pollock, women offenders have pasts of sexual and/or physical mistreatment that exists as the major root of subsequent delinquency, criminality and addiction (Covington 2001). New inventions have enlightened the problems that most women face in the society. For most of these crimes, men are more accountable and women’s concern has shifted towards the social consequences of their submission at the hands of men. Women gained more support for the social implications of the crime pertaining to females. As a result there exists more awareness and solutions, more treatment options that diverge previous more punitive theories.

The criminal justice system has experienced more changes in history to better accommodate women. For a very long period of time, women have been discriminated against, and people have developed the thought of not "tough enough" or "sound enough" to be a security official or a law enforcer. Usually, people believe this work was made for men and women should not get involved. As time passed, women charted their paths in the system and discovered their place. Contemporarily, women are getting involved in jobs such as pursuing criminals, solving crimes, supervising prisoners and preventing crime.

In conclusion, women should have formulated more theories to help in reducing gender disparity in the criminal law department. This should be done because it is most women who feel the pinch of a rise in crime. Women should, therefore, be treated as equals to men in the criminal justice system, because of the skills they can require cannot easily be obtained by men. A certain example in which women are unique would be calmness when interrogating to a suspect. It is rising in the law enforcement system that women should be given more priorities in theory formations because of their everyday struggles to show that they also belong in the system of justice and law enforcement.
