There is no necessity in colonizing Mars because we still have to make Earth problems superior. Mars is the fourth planet, an inhabitable planet that has no atmosphere, and its average distance to Earth is 225 million kilometers away from Earth. The fact remains that Mars is inhabitable will be a problem colonizing. A trip to Mars will take us time, money and will give us problems. We do not want more problems we first have to fix Earth’s problems. Some people agree with me for instance, in a Ted Talk Luciana Wickiewicz an astronomer stated that going to Mars is terrible, “ Compared to Earth, Mars is a pretty terrible place.” The Earth will be left to the side if we colonize Mars because we will put more attention on exploring Mars.
The man mission to Mars will cost us money, which we can use to help Earth’s problems. In the article Pros and Cons of a Manned Mission to Mars by Demarcus Briers states that “ The cost of man mission to Mars would be more than 20 billion dollars… that could be put to better” Yes, colonizing and exploring Mars will waste our money. The United States now can pay money for the national debt, education, climate change, global warming, and diseases. We have money as a resource for something that is needed; we need to fix Earth. For example, the investments on Mars could help us fix climate change. Climate change can destroy the human race; we want to set Earth, so we don’t have start from scratch on Mars. Specifically investments to Mars, NASA waste about 360 million per year, and the United States spent 2.5 billion dollars to make The rover Curiosity that is on Mars. In the other hand, to fix climate change until 2050, it will cost 359 trillion dollars. Regardless of Mars being as a Plan B and starting from scratch, we can fix Earth's problems. Also, investments are 360 million per year, 20+ billion dollars for exploring Mars, yet money for living there, making domes, resources: water, oxygen, and transportation not included. This list of money wasted on Mars is ongoing but if people reflect that Earth is more important than Mars humanity can live for the generations.
The mission to Mars will be a risk for humankind because the new experience we will be taking on. Besides of Mars being far from Earth, the time to get there can affect us. The journey to Mars will take us 39 days if we go in our fastest spacecraft on average is about 150- 300 days. People are hardly used to be on an airplane, and the only the longest the people last on a plane is 18 hours. Imagine staying in outer space for 39 days people would experience many side effects such as long-term weightlessness, muscle atrophy and deterioration of the skeleton. Besides of side-effects, people can die from asteroids, new diseases on Mars, lack of oxygen, and weather. Mars is different than Earth; Mars gets hit by 200 rocks a year, has harsh sandstorms and has radiation throughout the planet. In the article Pros and Cons of a Manned Mission to Mars by Demarcus Briers, he explains that there is a lack of communicating in outer space. The article states "Upon developing technology, there will be an extended period when the astronauts on Mars will not be able to contact Earth because they will be on the far side of the sun." Therefore, people that go to Mars can have the risk of Earth not knowing what is happening because of lack of communication. The worse risk of them all is that if we go to Mars and were unable to live there, we can lose money, lives, and problems back on Earth.
If we go to Mars and colonize, we would leave problems on Earth. The United States mostly invest in the military because we are a target. Large countries like North Korea and Russian can attack the US if we colonize Mars and waste money on Mars. They can take advantage of the reason that our military will be weak if we won't have as many investments on it. The man mission to Mars to colonize is not going to be a use because yet we still haven't discovered any cures for diseases like Cancer, Zika, and Ebola. However, in the article 5 undeniable reasons human need to colonize Mars- even though it's going to cost billions by Jessica Orwig it states on the paragraph Ensuring the survival of our species "Putting people on more than one planet would better ensure our existence thousands if not millions of years from now." Despite having to go to Mars, will it ensure our existence if we bring all the diseases with no cure? We will not last years if we have no cure for the diseases and new diseases if are found on Mars. The United States of America is a country that has other problems to solve, and when we fix our problems, we will live a better life than Mars.
Finally, Earth has major conflicts, and by colonizing Mars, it will not help the Earth. Mars will be the death of the Earth and humanity if we colonize Mars. The man mission to Mars will take us apart from the problems that can end Earth. The United States will not have money to colonize Mars and solve climate change. We will lose billions, still, have a risk of colonizing Mars and yet still not solving Earth's diseases. There is only one question remaining, Would you want to colonize Mars?
