“The Patriot” is one of my all-time favorite movies. It tells a lot about what went on during the Revolutionary War. Not all in the movie were true but for the most part it was. The movie really relates to what happened during the Revolutionary War in a lot of different ways. When watching this movie you learn a lot about how the people felt during the Revolutionary War. The people were emotional and scared from what the war brought to them Men were injured and you could really see how much that affected them by seeing the impressions they made. Many people were very injured especially the men that fought in the war.
In the “Patriot”, The British went to the house owned by the Martins and you could see how the kids felt when they showed up by the tears in their eyes and the screaming. When the British men took the slaves away and told them that they would have to fight for the British now even when they were free, the children cried. When there brother was killed they also showed the emotion of hurt. Also when the little girl was crying but still had to take care of the other children when Benjamin took the others boys to get Gabriel from the British. The emotions the boys showed while they shot the men while helping their dad get Gabriel back. After getting Gabriel instead of the boys crying they showed happiness.
Throughout the The Patriot it showed a lot of emotion that the war brought to the people putting the war in perspective to have a better knowing of how the war influence the people that lived through it. The thing that really caught my eye was how the Martin family was and how supportive they were to one another. The first part of the movie showed the oldest daughter helping the younger daughter learn and sing the Alphabet because they had no mother to help her. The daughter was very supportive to her younger sibling. Also when the two oldest boys went out hunting to help the family have food to eat while the other boys helped the farm workers gather corn from the corn field. This shows that each person plays a part to support the family. Also when the horse rider delivered the mail to the house and the two boys from hunting got it they never opened it until the father got back and told them what was in the mail. The boys showed that they really respected their dad and wasn't going to do it without their dad’s permission to do so. Benjamin supported Gabriel even when he didn't tell him that he was signing up for the army. When Benjamin told the oldest daughter to take them to their aunts house if they didn’t come back, she told him yes that she could do it and knew where she lived. When the two younger boys went into the woods with Benjamin to fight off the British to get Gabriel they didn't tell their father no. They sat there like their dad told them to do and shot just like Benjamin taught them. Each one in the family supported each other and cared for one another.
In the movie there were also many things that were false that happened in the movie that didn't really happen in the real Revolutionary War. The movie really only showed the brutal and harsh things the British did like killing injured people and burning buildings down with people in there to burn alive. The Colonist also did many brutal things British did. They killed many injured people and burn down houses and buildings with people inside. In the movie it only showed the red coats or the British doing those things. Also in the Patriot is showed the British looking the people up in the Church and burning it down while the people were inside of it. In the real war people were not lock into Churches and burned alive like it shows in the Patriot. Other things that were false were that there were people wanting to sign up for the army but actually there was a draft that people forced to go to war if you were drafted.
All in all, The Patriot is one of my all-time favorite movies and really shows how the war affected the people during the Revolutionary War. The movie as a whole is something I would recommend if you were learning about the Revolutionary War or even wanting to know kind of what happened during it.
