To begin with, educator is a person who teaches and inspires others. An educator teaches students in a school or other learning environment. Some of the roles and responsibilities of an educator is to prepare and present lesson plans, supervise students in a classroom, grading them, and managing classroom procedures and expectations. Therefore, this essay will discuss about factors that can explain why children aren't interested in learning Hindi language and what can be done to solve this problem.
Lack of interest in particular subjects by students’ includes Hindi Language. It has been observed that primary teachers are not confident when it comes to teaching Hindi Language. The reason being they are not trained well at their teacher training institutions on the phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax of Hindi Language. Therefore, once they enter the field of teaching they find difficulties teaching the subject. At the end of the day the outcome is that the primary method of teaching of the teacher maybe difficult for the child to grasp hence, learning sessions become static. At the end of the day they are left with no choice but to continue doing Hindi in Year 9 and Year 10. As in most of the Indian schools Hindi is compulsory. Especially, those schools which is owned my Fiji Arya Pratinidhi Sabha if they have done Hindi till Y8 than it’s a must for them to continue till Y10. By the time children move to secondary school especially Year 9 and Year 10 they lose interest in Hindi Language and entire day they daydream without learning anything in class.
On the other hand, children lose interest in Hindi Language because of the difficult syllabus. Ministry of Education has a rigid curriculum and where by students are exposed to repetitive tests. For instance, the ‘culture book’ in Hindi at secondary level is way too difficult for children to understand. Subsequently, children find it difficult to cope with increasing demands of school work and they give up under such pressure. Thus, children lose interest and enthusiasm in Hindi Language. They do not take pleasure in learning Hindi Language without realizing the importance of their mother language. If the determination of the students is strong, then they may even acquire understanding of concepts, while studying in just candle lights.
Lack of interest in Hindi language could be strengthened if the subject could be related to their daily lives. For example, if its literature, try to show the character that they can apply to their own lives. Some students may consider Hindi as a ‘boring’ subject. In order, to change their mindset teachers need to make learning a bit of fun. These can be done by creating oratory competition or crossword puzzle that can help them to learn. Sometimes, even a humorous cartoon shown to them to have a laugh and never forget the subject. Also, try and show relevance to their future careers and relate the subject to how it can be applied to the work environment.
In cocnlusion, professionalism of teachers’ could be strengthened if they are punctual to school, to their classes and staff briefings. This will improve the professional image of teacher’s. In fact, it is sad that it is difficult to learn the native language. And this is not a problem in the success or development of the students, but in the qualifications and knowledge of the teachers: by improving these two factors, the situation with the study of Hindi in Indian schools will probably change for the better.
