State of the Union Summary

In the 2014 State of the Union Speech by President Barrack Obama, the president focused on the economy, as well as a few other domestic and military issues. One of the first things addressed by President Obama was tax reform. He suggested that by cutting loopholes and making the tax code simpler, business could be boosted in the US. President Obama made a few brief comments on the Affordable Care Act and how it has helped families across the country by guaranteeing coverage for pre-existing conditions and allowing children to remain on their parents’ insurance plan longer.

Finally, President Obama drew attention to foreign issues including the his desire for the closure of Guantanamo Bay and for reform in government surveillance programs both abroad and at home. Obama went on to discuss foreign affairs, calling for freedom from dictators in Syria, as well as peace between Israel and Palestine. He also expressed the belief that the US must continue negotiations with Iran.
