The Reasons to Be Proud Canadian

Canada is a country to be proud of. We have contributed to the world got the better on an international and social level, while evolving on an international and social level. With many inspirational Canadian leaders and hero's such as Pierre Trudeau, Lester B. Person and Terry Fox, Canada should be proud of not only what we've accomplished as a whole but the people we've molded as well. While we have made some mistakes throughout history, Canada has proven itself time and time again and every Canadian should be proud of the land we call home.

International action has been taken by Canada on many occasions. During World War 1, Canadian soldiers fought in the 2nd Battle of Ypres. While the French fled and left Canada stranded, Canadian soldiers and commanders held their ground, through mustard gas attacks, heavy artillery, and many loses. The bravery Canada had demonstrated is something we should look up today. Vimy Ridge was a so legendary. The first time in history all four Canadian corps fought together under Canadian command, Arthur Currie. Not only was it a full Canadian invasion, but we won opposed to other countries who were unsuccessful. Canada took a huge step and risk, and we should be proud of what we accomplished.

Canadians have impacted the world socially and should be proud of our achievements. Canada gained its independence in 1931, after a long battle.We remained allies with Britain and no tensions were created, while finding allies of our own such as the United States. We demonstrated our alliance during the cold war with the DEW line, Pine tree line, and NORAD. The Suez crisis is also and important moment Canada should be proud of. A crisis that could have potentially led to world war 3, was avoided because of Canada. We became involved as a neutral party. Lester B. Pearson with the help of the United Nations, came up with a peaceful way to resolve the issue between Egypt and Britain. The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) was created and put an end the the whole ordeal. Canada took action with a peaceful approach to world issues such as the Suez Crisis making Canada a country we should take pride in because of our composure we possess.

Pierre Trudeau, one of Canada's inspirational Prime Ministers, gives us more to be proud of on a political side of things. Even in hard times for Canada, between the English and French speaking Canadians, Trudeau established the Official Languages Act in 1969. Trudeau's involvement in Canada's affairs benefitted us greatly. As Minister of Justice, in 1970, he past the Canadian Human Rights, prohibiting any and all discrimination towards others. While working for a Just society, Trudeau has changed the lives of many. Freedoms for abortion, homosexuality and birth control allow Canadians to make individual, personal choices and he's allowed us this freedom. This is something all Canadians should be grateful and proud of, for all the Prime Ministers that are dedicated to Canada and Canada's citizens.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge Canada's accomplishments on a National level. The evolution of Romans rights show how we've grown and come to accept each other no matter the sex. Equality in Canada has grown greatly and we should be proud of how far we've come. The struggle many woman faced with employment and wages compared to men and how we've expanded these freedoms and laws, legislation was past and in 1993, even had a female Prime Minister, Kim Campbell. The Avro Arrow is also something Canadians should take pride in. With CF-105 Canada had the strongest air force in the world, and although it was cancelled, that does not change what we had created and what we had accomplished. Canadian citizens are one of many other reasons we should have pride towards our country. Citizens such as Terry Fox show bravery and courage and compassion. Being able to take huge risks and have so many people support your choices and decisions and help inspire many and give millions hope. Canada is an amazing country I think everyone is proud of.

Therefore, I believe Canada is nothing short of amazing. Our accomplishments and actions in the past and throughout history and still today, have only benefitted the world for the greater good not only internationally, but socially, politically, and nationally as well. That is why I believe, Canada is a proud country and a country all its citizens take pride in.
