The Recovery Plan to Save The Northern Spotted Owl

The northern spotted owl exists in three species and resides in forests that are old and grown. It basically a nocturnal hunter and its due to its diet that it is endangered from the ever reducing habitat. The spotted owl is under the protection provided by the Wildlife act in section 34 that illegalizes the destruction of their habitat, or taking eggs from their nest. The Red List also features the spotted owl which implies that the owl is an endangered and threatened species. The government made an effort to establish a team to recover the owl and developed a recovery plan for the spotted owl

The pros of saving the northern spotted owl are by far many compared to its cons. First, a whole ecosystem will be saved. It is in this ecosystem that plants and other animals live. It is also an indicator of good health on the ecosystem and their decline is a clear indicator that other species are also dying like the flying squirrel and the elk.

Secondly the owl and the habitat it resides in are of great value scientifically as they create an opportunity for an increase in our understanding and inquiry. There has been very little research into the habitat of these birds and to allowing their deterioration is to shut the opportunity to explore and the benefits that will be created by the new discoveries that will be made ( McGraw Hill).

Finally the aesthetic value of the species should be respected by the society and it should be preserved and ecosystem it represents. No society should give away the splendor of the forests and the splendor of the inhabitants of the forests such as the elk, flying squirrel and the mountain goats for anything.
