I am work in a nursing home with 10 residents with various needs, including wheelchair users, early stage dementia, and hearing and visual impairments. As part of the stimulating activities they provide the setting celebrate each resident’s birthday with a party.

Activity:

Decorating a room for a fellow resident’s party:

Activities are produced for individuals to develop and promote productivity in residential care users during their stay. Activities such as decorating a resident’s room for the individual’s birthday will provide the individuals with a valuing of care towards the residential home carers which will benefit the service user and carer with a better bond to plan for the best quality of care and better recovery towards the individuals using creative and therapeutic activities.

Individuals in a residential care home will have individual needs which will include difficulties in certain tasks. Individuals who suffer from impairments or disability’s will lack the ability to perform in certain activities such as individuals who suffer from visual impairments will unable to have access towards advanced decorating equipment that might cause injury towards the individual due to impairment of their ability to that individual task. Ability of skills such as reading instructions on step by step procession of baking a cake. individuals who are visually impaired will be provided braille (text of raised dots) in order to understand information which will develop individuals knowledge and understanding towards learning and progressing on tasks without difficulties of individuals with impairments of sight restrictions are decreased in order to gain suitability towards individuals to be able to participate within the activity without endangering self or other members of staff or residents as well as gaining awareness of their environment and learning the understandings of baking.

Emotional:

Emotional developments can be made during the activities of baking and decorating a cake for individual residents in the residential home. Negative Emotional aspects can decrease by providing concentration in tasks of baking by providing distractions of thoughts and emotions can prevent stress and anxiety in residents by allowing therapeutic activities to cancel out unwanted emotions and depression of individuals using feeling sensory senses connecting individual thoughts on to feelings and touch of baking ingredients. Residents will become relaxed and calm which will provide benefits towards individuals who suffer from early stage dementia due to the activities groundings of emotions which will support and prevent individuals who suffer from dementia to outbursts of anger by the forming of a calm environment of the activity.

Activities such as playing music and dancing for individual’s residential service users birthdays will provide individuals to celebrate their birthdays with entertainment and promote individuals to feel empowered and produce positive influences of emotions during their time in the residential home for individual’s recovery or care of the individuals.

For individual residents to be able to perform in activities such as dancing and listening to music individuals needs must be requited and adapted towards the residential care setting and planning of the individual person. As well as maximising cognitive function and muscle memory through practices of dancing brain function is increased which allows resident to be able to prevent stages of memory decay which will help individuals who suffer from early stages of dementia from aggressing in a brief period from the usage of brain activity of normal daily functions individuals will be able to prolong deterioration of the disease.

Emotional:

Dancing to music in a residential home as an activity can help individuals improve their emotional state as dancing is a form of exercise which releases endorphins which causes individuals to reduce stress level and increase moods which will benefit individual’s health and mental wellbeing of care towards recovery. Residents will be able to prevent high levels of stress and depression of individuals by participating and listening to music being played by keeping feelings of emotions distracted which might be causing residents issues and continuations of stress preventing problems.

Social:

Dancing can be performed with partners or in groups of individuals in the residential home as dancing is an activity that can use the contributions of multiple individuals. By this activity providing individuals with a close intimacy of social interactions and gathering of individuals to dance and listen to music which will open communication and socialisation of members of family who might be visiting residents during their birthday celebrations which keeps welfare of individual’s close relationships connected which can be important to improve individual’s health states and mental satiability with the providing of friends and family visitations during the activity.
