The Role of Virtues and Ethics in a Person’s Life

Life and everything that occurs during one’s lifetime is a series of trials and tribulations that God puts you through in order to test an individual. Life has a purpose and in order to succeed one must have a set of rules or things to abide by or to guide their life. If you purchase something so simple as a pen from say the dollar store, it will most likely come with if not a manual, a simple set if directions. Humans are quite similar in that we need laws and rules in our life in order to achieve success. Life for myself is a test that I have to pass, every trouble and trial that comes in my path is a chance for me to be patient, respectful and honest. Every hardship in my life is a chance for me to prove to God that I am capable and do indeed live my life by His commandment or His “manual” that he revealed for me along with the other Muslims in the world. In Islam, life is a temporary stop or a momentary place before the final destination that is the afterlife of course. Life on Earth is meant to be tempting and appealing to the human but we are mean to remain steadfast and to follow through with our main goal, to be a good human being which will in return take you to heaven and please God. Essentially, the main essence of life is to be a virtuous and ethical individual which will in return bring you the satisfaction which will contribute to maintaining happiness.

Objective of course means a mind-independent reality. That is, an objective feature of the universe is something that does not rely on my own – or anyone else’s – personal beliefs or feelings on the matter. To be completely honest, I used to struggle with understanding the concept of objectiveness until social-10 preIB when I realized that having an objective perspective towards something for example is: it is bad and wrong to kill Jews and homosexuals, and even if Hitler had won the war, and succeeded in killing off or brainwashing all his opposition so that the whole world believed it was right, it would still be wrong. No matter what you personally believed about the matter, it would be wrong in that objective sense. Taking a look at the meaning of life in the objective sense would mean the same thing, the fact that we have a certain set of accomplishments to achieve and pre-set guidelines to follow. No man likes to be accused of working aimlessly. Acting without purpose is against the accepted norms of sanity. Therefore, we are confident that God never does any work without aim and purpose.

Dixon explains this concept very thoroughly, “A child is sent to school to study and acquire knowledge. Likewise, we are sent here to acquire spiritual qualities which could not be obtained otherwise, unless you are faced with such a situation which puts some strain upon your integrity, your integrity has no real strength. Unless you are facing a situation in which the majority of people lose their temper, your forbearance has no meaning.

Therefore, to bring out the full qualities which are spiritual, it was necessary for the man to come into this world and prove his worth by behaving nobly in adverse atmosphere and surroundings. ” Whether looking at it objectively or not, it is a necessary factor towards success that an individual be respectful, ethical, and virtuous.
