Tamils consider their language to be the "most pure" of the major Dravidian Languages (http://www.encyclopedia.com).Tamil is definitely not a popular language so I am going to share information about countries with Tamil speakers, how Tamil is used for trade, statistics on Tamil, how the Tamil language affects the government, the culture of Tamil and the evolution of the Tamil language. Tamil is a very unique and old language.
Tamil is definitely not the most popular language around the world, but it is a popular language in India, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka (www.infoplease.com ). The Tamil language is also popular in Mauritius and Canada. In addition to Tamil being spoken in these countries it is also spoken in some parts of Africa. Tamil is actually an official language in all of these countries. So while the Tamil language is not very popular it’s still a living and existing language it’s just not very popular in most parts of the world. The Tamil language is actually ranked the 17th language around the world. There are a myriad of countries in this world but only four of them have Tamil speakers.
Trade is popular for Tamil speakers between India and Sri Lanka. India is Sri Lanka’s largest trading partner globally, while Sri Lanka is India’s second largest trading partner in the SAARC. It is the number one source of supplies accounting for twenty percent of Sri Lanka’s total imports and third largest export destination for Sri Lankan products absorbing six percent of total exports (www.mumbai.mission.gov.lk). Trade between India and Sri Lanka is crucial to the economic status of both countries. Tamil is an official language of both India and Sri Lanka. Therefore, trade is made possible because there is no language barrier between the countries. Tamil speakers also trade with Europeans by using sea trade. Information about trade between Tamil speakers and other countries is actually hard to find. Trade is essential to every country, so even though it’s hard to find information about trade between Tamil speakers and other places we know that there is trade happening.
hile Tamil is not the most popular language it is still spoken by many people. It is spoken as a native language by 61.5 million people in India, primarily in Tamil Nadu and neighboring states, and in northeastern Sri Lanka, as well as by 8 million second-language speakers (Ethnologue) (Aboutworldlanguages.com). The language of Tamil is not very popular yet is still has not died out.
The Tamil language affects the government because there is no language barrier. They are able to communicate easily because they all speak the same language. Tamil is very rich in heritage and culture. The people of Tamil belong to the Dravidian family. The people of Tamil take pride in their culture and try to protect their old history.
Over the years, the Tamil language has changed. The earliest known Tamil inscriptions date back to at least 500 BC (http://www.indianmirror.com/languages/tamil-language.html). The Old Tamil language started out as just being written in two tenses, past tense and the “non past.” The Middle Tamil language changed and started using the present tense. The Middle Tamil language borrowed words from the Sanskrit language. The Modern Tamil language has changed in a lot of ways. The Tamil language is still kind of similar to the way it was in the Middle age except for the way some words are pronounced.
