Company History

Walt Disney landed in California in the late spring of 1923 with a lot of expectations however little else. He had made a cartoon in Kansas City about a little girl in a cartoon world, called Alice's Wonderland, and he concluded that he could utilize it as his "pilot" film to offer a progression of these "Alice Comedies" to a merchant. After arriving in California, he was successful. A merchant in New York, M. J. Winkler, contracted to disperse the "Alice Comedies" on October 16, 1923, and this date became the begin of the Disney organization. Initially known as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, with Walt Disney and Roy, as equivalent accomplices, the organization soon changed its name, at Roy's recommendation, to the Walt Disney Studio.

Walt Disney made his Alice Comedies for a long time, yet in 1927, he chose to move rather to an all-cartoon series. To star in this new arrangement, he made a character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Inside a year, Walt made 26 of these Oswald kid's shows, however when he endeavored to get some extra cash from his wholesaler for a momentous year of the cartoons, he discovered that the merchant had gone behind his back and signed up almost all of his animators, wanting to make the Oswald kid's shows in his own particular studio for less cash without Walt Disney. On rehashing his agreement, Walt understood that he didn't possess the rights to Oswald-the merchant did. It was an agonizing lesson for the youthful cartoon maker to learn. From that point on, he made sure that he possessed everything that he made.

The first Disney Studio had been in the back portion of a land office on Kingswell Avenue in Hollywood, yet soon Walt had enough cash to move nearby and lease an entire store for his studio. That little studio was adequate for a few years, however, the organization, in the end, exceeded it and Walt needed to look somewhere else. He found a perfect bit of property on Hyperion Avenue in Hollywood, constructed a studio, and in 1926 moved his staff to the new office.
