Urging The Youth for Positive Changes

“When one is in school, he is inclined towards studies. When one comes to higher secondary, he is little qualified to take his own decision. When it comes to selection of life partner, he is still considered naïve. It is ultimately when one is very old and at the verge of death, that he is considered qualified to make any decisions about his life. This is the reason why we have less leaders despite being the youngest and energetic nation in the world”, said Kanika Sinha, Director of Outreach, ComMutiny, on day one of National Conference on youth in social change on August 25 at TMA Pai Halls, Kasturba Medical College.

The conference, aimed towards promoting the idea of ‘giving’ among the youth and to sensitize them to bring a social change and promote Daan-Utasav, saw a fairly large turnout of audience and delegates who had come from different places to witness the program.

Apart from Kanika, other panel speakers of the event were- Venkat K, founder of Give India, Vivek Sharma, programme director of Gandhi fellowship and Prof. Madhu Veeraghavan, director of TAPMI.

They emphasised on urging the audience to take initiatives to bring about a change in society and promote learning outside classroom as well. “Only when you face hardships in your life, you empathize with the pain of others”, claimed a speaker. The youth should rise above the social media trap and look into the real world in front of them.

Answering a question from the audience regarding how to nurture those, who are downtrodden and financially weak, the speaker said, “I believe the best time is now as we have all the necessary resources but I think the real problem lies with the pre-occupied thoughts of people.” The panel discussions were modulated smoothly by Venkat K. “Collection of young people, exchange of ideas and making friendship- this conference facilitates getting to know ideas, making circle”, Vivek added.

The serious discussion was followed by a cultural program, amusing the audience, with a series of impressive and extravagant performances.

The conference saw mass participation from delegates and students as well, coming in from nearby cities, to garner experience. When asked about major takeaways from day one, a delegate from NIT Trichy opined, “I got broad explanation regarding all my queries. I didn’t expect I would gather so much from here. It feels good to be part of this crowd.”
