Every little puppy loved fun and playing. So Vanna the Puppy wasn’t an exception. She loved playing; chewing on shoes and playing hide and seek! She also loved Lily, her little owner very much. Vanna was only few weeks old when Lily found her on the street. She was a sickly pup and her owner didn’t want her. Lilly took a look at the little pup and fell in love with her. She took the pup home and nursed her. Every since then the two became inseparable. They went everywhere together, except school. They also did everything together.

Every morning, Vanna woke Lily up from sleep and helped her prepare for school. What a darling pup Vanna was!

She would hold the edge of the bedcover with her teeth and drag it. Then she would jumped on the bed and lick Lily’s face until she blinked her eyes. Lily would wake up laughing and then she would tickle Vanna.

“You’re a naughty little pup, Vanna!” Lily would say, playfully.

“Woof!” Vanna would bark and lick her nose.

Lily doesn’t always remember where she kept her bag, socks or shoes.

“Oh dear, where are my socks?” Lily would say as she searched for them.

“Ruff-ruff!” Vanna would bark.

Then she would dash under the bed and bring out whatever Lily was looking for!

Another day, Lily couldn’t find her ribbons. She searched everywhere for them and she was afraid that Mommy might be cross with her. Vanna began to bark as she tugged on Lily’s dress.

“What is it Vanna?” Lily asked, “Do you know where my ribbons are?”

“Woof!” Vanna barked, louder.

Lily knew what that bark meant and she followed Vanna out of the room. The puppy pulled the little girl into the laundry room. Three little ribbons were in the laundry basket.

“Thank you,” Lily said and hugged her neck.

One afternoon, Lily, mommy, daddy and Vanna, the puppy went to the beach. It was a beautiful day; the sky was so clear and blue. Birds were singing happy songs on nearby trees. The sun was smiling down on them. The beach was surrounded by beautiful trees and lovely flowers. The water looked was turquoise blue with white froths on it. The air was cool and it smelled like roses. It was really a beautiful day.

Seven-year-old Lily was a lovely girl with blue eyes and sun-kissed cheeks. She had curly read hair and freckles on her nose.

Vanna was a brown little puppy with a curled up tail. Vanna was really a cute pup and she loved fun.

“What’s that glow in your eyes?” Lily asked, “Vanna, do you want us to build sandcastles?”

Woof! Woof!

Vanna jumped up, excitedly. She loved digging her little paws into the sand and helping Lily to build sandcastles.

“Then we shall build sandcastles!” Lily said.

Woof! Woof!

Vanna jumped up, her tongue lolling to the side.

“We need sand and water,” Lily said.

Vanna grabbed Lily’s plastic shovel with her mouth and scooped some sand with it.

“Good girl!” Lilly clapped her hands, happily.

Then Lily used her small plastic pail to fetch some water. They began to build the sandcastle. First, little poured a little water on the heap of sand. Then Vanna used her paws to mix the water and sand together. Lily rolled a ball of sand and squeezed it tightly to make it stronger.

“It’s time to flatten the sand balls,” Lily cried.

“Woof!” Vanna replied.

Lily used her hands while Vanna used her paws.

The two friends flattened the sand, making a base for their castle. Carefully, Vanna and Lily began to build up a tall heap of sand. They piled big handfuls of sand wet until it grew higher and higher.

“Oh, Vanna, we shall have the best sandcastle on the beach,” Lily placed her hands around Vanna’s neck.

“Woof! Woof!” Vanna cried and licked Lily’s face.

Lily giggled and tickled Vanna with her wet hands. The puppy rolled onto her back, wagging her tail, happily.

“Vanna, we have to continue building our castle!” Lily cried.

While Vanna built the castle wall, Lily built tiny rooms in the castle.

“We have a beautiful castle now,” Lily said.

Both Lily and Vanna jumped up with joy. Mommy and daddy also agreed that it was the most beautiful castle they had ever seen. People stopped by to admire the castle.

“Oh, Vanna, see how everyone love our castle,” Lily said.

“We have to take a family photograph with this wonderful castle,” Mommy said.

“Yes, it’s such a lovely castle,” Daddy said, “It’s the best I’ve ever seen,”

While everyone was admiring the castle, something terrible happened at that very moment!

A mighty tide rolled over and washed away the castle!

Lily was sad.

Vanna’s ears dropped downwards as she looked at the ruined castle.

“Why don’t you build another one?” Mommy said.

“Yes, let us all build a big castle,”

“Can I join?” A boy asked.

“Me too!” A little girl said.

“Did you hear that Vanna?” Lily asked with excitement.

“Woof!” Vanna said and jumped up.

Mommy started scooping sand. Daddy fetched some water while the others began to mold the sand balls.

Vanna flattened the sand balls with her paws and the building of the castle began. Everyone worked together and they soon had a heap of tall sand.

Guess what happened again?

A huge wave of water rolled over and washed away their pile of sand.

“Oh no!” Lily cried.

“Ruff-ruff!” Vanna cried.

Everyone was sad and slowly they began to walk away from the ruined castle. Suddenly Vanna had an idea! She wagged her tail happily as her tongue hung out of her mouth. Then Vanna started running.

“Wait! Vanna!” Lily cried.

“Vanna!” mommy and daddy cried.

Vanna was racing towards the water and Lily was scared that she might get hurt. So Lily started chasing after Vanna. Mommy and Daddy thought Lily might fall and hurt herself. So Mommy and Daddy started chasing after Lily.

“Vanna wait!” Lily cried.

“Lily don’t run so fast!” Mommy called.

“Wait Lily!” Daddy said.

The other families on the beach thought they were playing a game. A little boy started running after them. Then a girl saw them and thought it was fun so she joined them too. Soon, everyone was running after Vanna. The clever puppy docked and dodged.

“I almost got her!” Daddy cried out, excitedly.

“Here she comes!” Lily cried, spreading her arms to grab Vanna. Do you know what that clever puppy did?

She bent her head and ran between Lily’s legs! Then she turned around and wagged her tail.

“I know what Vanna is doing!” Lily suddenly cried.

A man reached for Vanna but the pup dashed away before he could grab her. Then to everyone’s surprise Vanna ran straight into the water!

“What’s she doing now?” Mommy cried, breathlessly.

“Get out of the water, Vanna!” Lily cried.

Vanna walked out of the water and shook her body, spraying water on everyone. Then she jumped into the water again.

“Oh!” Everyone screamed.

First, Lily jumped into the water and Vanna swam away from her. Then Daddy and Mommy also got into the water.

“This looks like fun!” A boy cried, “Let’s have some water fight!”

“Yeah!” Everyone screamed excitedly.

Lily grabbed Vanna and poured some water on her head. Vanna shook her fur and sprayed water all over Lily.

“Vanna you’re a naughty puppy!” Lily giggled.

Vanna wiggled her tail and licked Lily’s nose!

Lily and Vanna joined in on the water fight. There were loud cries and screams as people were dunked in water.

“Vanna, do you want to play ball?” Lily asked.

“Woof!” Vanna barked, excitedly because she loved playing ball.

Lily raced out of the water and returned with a ball.

“Catch!” Lilly yelled and threw the ball.

Vanna jumped up and grabbed the ball between her paws. Then she threw the ball at Lilly but another little girl caught it. The girl threw the ball into the air and everyone reached for it.

Guess who caught the ball?

Vanna!

“Good girl!” Lily cried.

Vanna threw the ball at Lily who caught it.

“It’s time for lunch,” Mommy said.

Vanna’s ears perked up and her nose went up. Her tongue lolled out of her mouth with spittle dribbling down her chin. Vanna was the first to get out of the water and she ran ahead of them. Mommy laid the picnic mat on the floor and Lily and Daddy spread out the meals. There were apples, pies, chicken and cake! Mommy gave Vanna a big, juicy drumstick.

“Ruff-ruff!” Vanna barked, licking her lips.

“You deserve it, Vanna,” Mommy said.

“Vanna showed us how to have fun!” Daddy said.

“Vanna is so smart!” Lily added.

Vanna looked up at her adorable family with a spark in her eyes. If she could talk, at that moment she would have said;
