Virtual reality is a type of digital reality, this is a way to create an environment designed for human interaction, and this is, of course, different than our real world. Virtual reality gives us a way to create an environment for simulated interaction. Anything we create like a classroom, machine and anything for any purpose.
Research has shown that, for learning physical motion, repeating a task reinforces learning Virtual reality an improves persons senses, as a platform for mediated learning, provides instructions on- demand, allowing students to repeat difficult complex and real motions whenever instruction is needed and as often as is needed away from the social pressures of a classroom setting.
Learning adapts to the user’s schedule, goals, and speed. Previous research has shown the affordance of on-demand learning provides an advantage over face-to-face human interaction. While some virtual systems have proven successful for learning, most VR systems lack the ability to capture the user’s full range of motion, limiting their ability to fully immerse the user in the virtual setting. In contrast, fully immersive virtual reality allows for full mobility by capturing human motion and reproducing the same motion in the virtual representation.
We decided to approach the virtual reality theme; we will show the number of areas this technology can influence and the various things that we do with it. We chose this because we want to raise awareness that Virtual Reality is a technology that will have a huge influence in our future lives, the current mindset of most people is to believe that VR is only used for games but in reality, it has reached a point where it’s helping in many fields of work such as medicine, architecture, helping the disabled and many others.
There are many sectors adopting virtual reality for their improvement and success. Doctors using it for practice surgery operation and it is cheaper than practicing on real surgery and less risk factor. In education, the biggest change has been google expeditions, there are thousands of lesson plan for kids. Kids are able to go on a trip virtually like on the surface of the moon. Corporate world using it for employee training because the employee can be trained with virtual machine how to operate and it will be a very cost effective. Air force and army also using virtual reality for military operation and flight training. it also reduces the risk of getting injured and physical harm.
Technology has always been a game changer in human life but it has also some downsize. If we talk about virtual reality than defiantly it has a big impact on human life and many studies has proved that it is really giving a positive result in places and these technology growing very fast to benefit in any sector. but as we know that it has also some negative aspect which we are going to talk later in this article
Problem area:
There are too many points to cover in this article. If we talk about the virtual reality that there are many questions arises in mind. What type of virtual technology is available? How does it work? What is there impact in our social life? because as we know every Technology has some downsize as well and if this technology is beneficial for our society than how.
In today world it is mainly known to play the game and watch movies. So it is used for something else? If it is used for something else than what are that different area where it is being used. There are many sectors adopting this technology than how this technology helping them.
In the health sector this technology has also been adopted than the big question arise that with virtual reality what medical department does, with this virtual reality technology how doctors getting benefits and how they are helping the patient. The same question arises for another department like defense, corporate world etc.
Virtual reality is also used to help a disabled challenged person than how it this technology helping a disabled person. If we talk about a disabled person than there are a variety of disability so the question arises does VR technology helping all kind of disabled person or only on some specific case.
How virtual reality make a contribution to the corporate world. In this changing world, companies are becoming more profit oriented and they are becoming more professional. So does virtual technology for corporate world help somehow? In which way it will help in cost reduction because of corporate and business world more concern about budget and financial issues.
What is the main concern of VR technology in human social life, does it make any difference in social contribution if people use this technology. What is the long-term harm and benefits in a social environment? Virtual shopping is also one of the major trends will be the future. So in the future where we see this technology.
There are many areas to cover in virtual reality, with their benefits and harms. So in this article we are going to focus all our problems and question arises with this topic( VR Technology influence in our life.)
Virtual reality is being used in a much different way. If we talk about what is their contribution in the medical field including doctors and patient than a broad area comes up to discuss. There are many examples to prove that this technology has become a major contributor in the medical field.
This technology has been used to treat many patients in many ways and helping doctors to perform their duties in the more efficient way. It is used to treat phobias, reduce pain and even help doctors to perform surgery. Disable challenged person with virtual reality can do more thing which they cannot do in real life and it is all comes at an affordable price, for instance, with google cardboard headset and mobile phone they can explore the world and many tours virtually which is not possible for him in real life. It might be possible for us to not sound good in any way because we experience different thing in real like a holiday trip. But for disabling person who cannot move and walk even a single step it is quite difficult for him to go for a world tour. They can experience tour or other adventure with virtual reality and it will be a good satisfaction for them.
Let us give one example Danny Kurtzman is an individual with muscular dystrophy. He is always a fond of surfing; he never gave up his dream because of his disability. He managed somehow with 10 people to lies down in on surfing board and taken them into the water. Recently he experienced a virtual reality for the same purpose for surfing. The company called ‘specular theory’ helped him to experience surfing in the virtual world. In real life, he can surf with the help of some people but in the virtual world he can stand up on surfing board and feel the excitement in a different way. It was a great experience for him. So in this way, virtual technology really helped him to make some experience which he cannot do it in real life. There are also several research and article proves that how VR Technology making a contribution in the medical field. Psychiatrists at the University of Louisville, taking help of VR technology to help phobia patient like flying and claustrophobia. Phobia is the type of mental situation where patient fear with something like from height they do not board in the plan or if they board in plan somehow than they try to avoid to look outside from window because of phobia of fear from a height. With the help of Virtual Reality, they can face the situation virtually because phobia can be removed from the mind only by facing a situation in real life.
PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) problem is being treated and using Virtual reality like a phobia in more solid to get out of this situation. There are many scenarios has been created for solider to don’t go in depression or any type of shocks while having in a dangerous situation.
Pain management- doctors trying to implement VR technology in pain management to distract the patient mind. As research has proved that our mind is only sourced to feel pain. If mind distracts in something else than pain can be reduced easily. For burn victim in which pain is a major issue, doctors using VR video game for a burn victim to distract their mind. A 2011 study showed that soldier with burn injuries VR game worked better than morphine.
Desktop virtual reality is one of the most useful tools for the physically challenged person who cannot move without a wheelchair. The person on wheelchair navigate a virtual world like a busy street, shopping Centre. They virtually navigate and move and face challenges which they are going to face in the real world. They wear an HMD (Head Mounted Display) and practice with an input device like joystick and trackball.
The aim of this technology is to make physically challenged person self-enabled and self-confident to live their life easily. This technology teaches them basic skills which they face in everyday life and to learn how to manage and face challenges without any support. One of the major advantages is that it is very cost effective. To train trained in a powered wheelchair we need to hire well-trained staff. And it will be not safe to practice in the real world, because it takes more concentration and focus. Now, look at this image below, a small child playing the piano. The Japanese VR manufactures company
LOVE is trying to raise fund to distribute VR Headset among the physically challenged children. This company has made a new turn in technology. Eye play the piano is one of the best work of Japanese VR headset manufacturer FOVE. Physically challenged children can play piano using eye movement while wearing the headset. Fove’s eye-tracking technology recognize the eye movement of users. The users blink on one of the many panels within the interface to trigger the preferred note. This idea of using eye movement is not only for playing piano, but this will also open new ideas to use eye movement to perform a different task which will be very helpful to others and especially for physically challenged people.
The four-year-old company MindMaze got 100 million dollars investment to bring a Virtual reality hardware in the market. The founder and CEO of MindMaze explain how their technology will help stroke victim who lost their hand control from brain they cannot move hands. How these virtual worlds will help in the healing process, and how this will help in recovery. He explains and says that imagine like victim lost control of his left hand but still move his right hand. After wearing MindMaze goggles victim see a 3d image of her left hand or we can say an avatar ( a common word used in VR technology) of his left hand when he moves his right hand than 3d images of his left hand also move the way he moves the right hand. The process of repeating this action help victim or in another word this repetition process trigger his brain area and says let’s regain the control of this hand. In this way, the patient can easily get control over his left hand.
Autism is a type of mental condition in which a patient feels difficulties in communication with other people. They face problem in social interaction and they are so confused by the world around them. There is no proper medicine for this mental situation and this cannot be recovered 100 percent. There are only some ways in which doctors can help them like therapies and exercises and some medication.
Virtual Reality technology has been added to the medication and therapies process. It helps a patient who is suffering from Autism to get some skills which are necessary for his development. VR world can help them to learn before facing the real world. There are one more benefits that it can be achieved in a safe environment. A team of researchers from the University of Haifa, Isreal has developed this virtual reality system. There are too many features has been evolved in this. In which Autism patient can experience real-life challenges to face like traffic lights and cars. They can learn how to cross roads and handles this type of crowded situation with too many people on street than how to walk and crossroad in a proper way without any support. They can face these challenges and learn without any dangers before experiencing in real life. There is one system developed in the US which main focus is to improve social attention in autistic children. The patient wears a VR headset where they can feel like they are in the classroom. They see images or avatar who delivers an individual presentation. Images start fading if viewers look away or lose interest. The concept of this virtual reality is to just give them a sense or practice to deal in the real world.
Virtual reality technology has also helped people who are facing particular vision impairment such as Stargardt's disease ( a reduction in central detailed version). They can see world more Cleary with VR headset. Here is the link for the video in which woman can see her grandchildren after a long year.
In medical filed if we talk about Virtual reality than we also need to focus and cover the topic of how doctors getting influences with VR technology. When doctors decide or plan surgery they basically really on collecting data of series of 2D images to understand patient body parts. They communicate with their college with this images and it becomes more complicated when too many people involved in a single surgery. The EchoPixel has created a software which is totally 3D. it helps doctors to understand, discuss with college and understand patient ‘s anatomy and make a plan for surgery with this 3d images. They can use a pointing device. It is powered by Zspace technology and available from HP. They can use it while doing surgery in Operation Theater. Here it looks like

Shafi Ahmed, the co-founder of virtual medics and medical realities, is now able to train many doctors with the help of Virtual reality technology. Dr. Ahmed in 2014 managed to reach 14000 doctors all over the world in a surgical training program with the help of Google glasses. They streaming live session of surgical training. In 2016 Dr. Ahmed streaming a cancer surgery in which he removed a cancer colon tumor in virtual reality. That video was shot in 360-degree.his philosophy is because of technology changing forget about one to one training and go for one to many at a time. Dr. Ahmed’s company is working on the project world’s first interactive VR training module for surgeons.
Another example which also proves that how VR technology changing the life of doctors and making ease his task. Doctors in China also used VR technology to do the operation and got help from doctors which were thousands of miles away. Doctors did surgery of bone fracture in Bortala, situated in Northwest of China. The chief doctor ye Zhewei was available at the same time in Wuhan nearly 2300 miles away from Bortala.he was capable to follow or give instruction in Virtual reality headsets and marked on a 3D image instructions for his colleagues to follow.
The patient of that surgery explains the situation that all system of my body become 3D images and was very for me to understand my conditions. Dr. Ya states that it saved a lot of money and time to fly from his place to the main hospital where the operation was going to operate.
Corporate world
Virtual reality has also been a big contribution to the corporate world. especially in the field of corporate training and online learning. There is no doubt that real training is more effective than theoretical training. It definitely gives better output but as research always show that the company spends a lot on employee training they spend much time money and effort to make his employee perfect for his job. Because of this reason some companies make agreement or type of bond that employee will not leave the company in a certain period of time if they leave it that they will have to pay a certain amount of money depends on agreement. Some time practical training too risky, dangerous, and sometimes it becomes difficult to perform in the first time
The primary reason for the organization to choose VR to use is that it is more cost effective, create virtual training zone and learn many things and practice it virtually without any risk factor.
Let's discuss the benefits of Virtual reality training:
Decreases risk factor- one of the major benefits of virtual reality is to decrease the risk factor. There are many industries like the fire brigade, some metal industries, oil factory and many mores where always pay attention to major security because of the high risk of an accident. These industries focus too much on employee training on regular basis. With the help of VR Technology, it will be easy for them to train their staff on safety majors.
Visual approach- it is very useful for the employee while training that if they face challenges in real and learn. They learn from the theoretical part but they need to implement in the real scenario for practice. With the help of VR Technology, they are able to perform the real task by facing virtual challenges like real.
Making task simple- with the help of visualizing approach too many tasks can be simplified. They can practice and repetition process while in training to get addicted to that situation where they are going to perform in real.
Remote access- virtual Reality is a creation of a simulated world where really we don’t need real classroom or a dedicated place for training. This can be done remotely and can save more money and time and last not least time.
Now we will focus on some example where companies have already adopted VR technology and started giving training to their employee and some are about to start.
Walmart – the world largest retailer had planned by end of 2017 they will use VR instruction in 200 Walmart academy center all over the U.S. they trying to make VR training is an integral part of Walmart employee. Walmart has developed many VR training modules like management training and customer service training. An employee can learn through VR headset and they can face too many challenges like in busy hour how they are going to fit himself in the worst situation. This also includes the situation where checkout operator scan items and make bills, there will be huddle like after scanning the wrong item or doubled scanned the same item than how they will delete from the system and how they can help the customer.
United Rental is one of the biggest equipment rental company in North America. They provide multiple solutions to the business including industrial and construction sites equipment. A company runs a one-week training program for their new employee. They are now testing to VR technology to complete training in a shorter time and in the more comfortable zone. In VR training scenario new staff will stand on construction sites to look what part of the equipment is missing then manager of those sites comes near him and they have to offer his company deal and start selling product on that scenario
Farmers insurance- when Farmers claims officer enter a house to investigate the damages of leaky sink they generally go to the kitchen, bent over and open the cabinet and try to find out the problem. This is a normal job for claims officer in daily life but Framers new staff not going in field area first to learn this stuff. In Farmers first pilot training program they are going to use Virtual Reality Headset and performing his duties at the office.
Farmers insurance has invested $ 400,000 in software and hardware to support Virtual Reality training for his new claims officer trainee staff. Roughly 50 new employees have taken this training through VR technology. Through this way, claims officer learn and find the fault and place where damages happened and they evaluate how much claims need to be granted. Jessica Decanio director of claims training department says in traditional training program they have two stories building where new claims inspector takes training, they usually create scenario to damages building and train staff to investigate the fault and grant how much cost to sanction for claims but after introducing a VR training approach with the help of VR Company Talespin now we have a broad area to train our staff like six stories building and more than 500 fault scenario where staff investigate the matter and learn. In this way, new staff learns very fast and a chance for a mistake in real life become very less because of one mistake or miscalculation of money grant for damages can cost too much for the company and it will be a big loss.
Jessica explains further that staff satisfaction has also gone up. They are trying to compare the skill and satisfaction label between tradition training and Virtual Reality training. but she adds more that til now what is got a review for VR training is positive and trainee staff is more satisfied than a previous staff member. Another benefit of VR training is that they are able to record all training program and they can investigate later that what the wrong action was taken by the trainee and easy for them to explain that scenario and even good for the trainee to learn from his previous mistake.
