It is theoretically a comic book and many people call it a graphic novel. This comic book is far away different from the traditional comic. “Watchmen” is a twelve chapter graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons in (1986-1987). Graphic novels are considered usually childish because there is lessons in the end of the novel or throughout novel and these graphic novels teaches you insightful teachings or even make you think about them by the side of the whole thing. There are more authors involved in a comic book, and it created similarly massive work.
This novel provides the best example of comic book it provides characters that can be enjoyed for many decades. This thesis will look upon the analysis and will discover the complexity and themes that will allow it to be reflected literature moreover, techniques, and characters ordinary to the comic book form. Most of the events in the book take place in New York City, and the tensions are high between the two heavy nations of the world Russia and USA. When the story begins the president is Richard Milhous Nixon and “Watchmen” is a substitute optional of 1985 wherever Nixon not ever resigns and had anyways eliminated the 22nd Amendment. The critics said that it is one of the best-selling Graphic Novel of all time. The graphic novel ‘Watchmen’ is consists of twelve chapters Outside of all the heroes; there is only one with superpowers. It is based on a group of masked crime fighters on the earth to protect Earth from the crimes, a different Earth with different federal events, partly because of the efforts of the crime combatants. There is a murder mystery when the story begins when one of the crime fighters named the Comedian was killed in his apartment, and the remaining crime fighters try to explain the rest of the mystery of the murder. On the other hand, they are trying to unravel the relationship to the rest of the humanity.
There are a lot of techniques used in this graphic novel like; narration, voice-over narration, flashbacks, strategic manipulation of chronology, frame narrative, and secondary sources, and the first-person narration. The title of this graphic novel is derived from the phrase Quis Custodie Itpsos Custodes, from Juvenal's Satire VI, "Against women" (c. AD 60–127), usually interpreted as "who watches the watchmen?" and the phrase is, “I hear always the admonishment of my friends: Bolt her in, and constrain her! But who will watch the watchmen? The wife arranges accordingly, and begins with them.” Alan Moore shows the persistent side to show the concept of the superhero, and it refers to the ideo of superheroes, the police, the government, or any group. As I discussed before this graphic novel consists of 12 chapters, each chapter has an epigraph of classical literature which usually appears in shortened form and works as the chapter's topic or heading. And some quotes are given in the end of every chapter to summarize the whole chapter. Unless the character is telling part of a chapter, the feelings of characters are not transmitted to the reader.
In the more cinematic way the thoughts and their actions are described in the novel which makes the reader responsible to interpret the thoughts and the feelings of the character. Between each and half of twelve chapters symmetry is the frequent theme. In the Watchmen, chapters 2, 4, and 6 each focus on one of the six main characters, and then 7, 9, and 11 on the remaining three. The life of Comedian is discussed in the chapter 2, the mystery of his death and most important nihilism. Past results from the outside of Mars and complete in different positions toward determinism is indicated in chapter 4 and chapter 9. The motif “blood over the eye of the smiley face” the first and last chapter reflects this. In my opinion the Watchmen is a background that is concurrently convincing and original, a complicated, multi-layered narrative, populated with well-realized characters. Rorschach's journal is the most important thing in the whole scenario; it helps to demonstrate aspects' judgments and frame of mind all over the novel without talk about them unambiguously. Alan Moore remarkably shows that he truly respects his reader’s intelligence and belief, deprived of the Greek chorus consequence. Many of times the ideas are communicated by the first-person narration and Rorschach first voice “heard,” meaning seen by the reader, in the story recurrently accomplishes this persistence.
