Water and Sanitation Issues in Pakistan

Water is clean, no one can unclean it except it changes its taste, smell and color. (Hadith)

Same definition falls under Scientific figures for measuring water as above 1: e; cleanness, taste and odor. Pure water fulfills these scientific tests.

1. It is neutral to litmus paper.
2. Freezing point is “0”and Boiling Point is “100” Celsius degree.
3. Water is Universal Solvent
4. Fulfills the Capillary Action test

The question arises here does we drink water and water means falling under all the conditions mentioned above or is it just a unknown liquid . I can say with 100% guarantee that we aren’t drinking water but something else we don’t know what is It.?

Maybe a liquid which looks like water but not water.

Well, we aren’t drinking water instead a messy liquid by which each year more than three million people in Pakistan become infected with water borne diseases and health issues. This is because of water and sanitation issues prospering every day without any concern to anybody.

According to research of Pakistan Public Counsel in water resources publishes that 88% schemes in Pakistan provides unsafe water. Arsenic, nitrate and human waste was detected after several tests. Also the leakage of water is causing infiltration of contaminated water. In 2012, ten people died because of water-borne Naegleria Fowleri. That’s not enough even just because of contaminated water 53,000 children die every year. Other diseases like dysentery, typhoid and Hepatitis are in abundant.

Due to inadequate services Pakistan losses 5.7 billion $, the 4.7 % of GDP of Pakistan which indeed causes a setback in country economy. Lahore the Paris of Pakistan and second largest city of the country is also suffering through it.

The Ravi river which serves to quench the thrust of 11 million and does sacrifices himself to these cruel who also drinks it and throw the factories spill ways in it and they indirectly try to take water’s life but in return they took theirs undoubtedly. Even worse the Ravi which feeds the inhabitants the fishes, they seem to not look after this stupendous free source but adds sewerage lines, human waste and some other crash are thrown in it assuming it as a Dustbin maybe all of them are out of their mind. Fishes0 bones also found to have heavy metal combination not good for health. River which also being consumed by neighboring corps through irrigational system are also full of acidic pesticides are itself dangerous for Lahore environment.

If latest studies are taken in account, Pakistan is one of top 10 countries with lowest access to clean water study entitled as the “water Gap-The state of world’s water 2018”.

According to the Surveys why people are deprived of clean water access are: Lack of financing, people should be notified by this disaster so to save water, proper sanitation system for water carriage, management of investments and money and above all this must be considered in political parties manifestos or had this as their political agenda to resolve this havoc.

Experts has also warns that if proper measures aren’t taken in recent times we may have to face serious consequences. We may even deprive of so called Unhealthy water very soon. Then we may have to drink blood because till 2025 we fall of shortage of water to 500 gallons per person which is lower to that extent that we may fall off the verge of dry well.

Pakistan is near to face water scarcity. Pakistan dumps 21billion $ Water to into sea due to inappropriate water conservation system. Climate changes are also not favoring Pakistan and we may have to face catastrophic condition if dams aren’t built to conserve water. Government of Pakistan should invest in big and small dams to save rain water especially in northern areas so that we may not run off water at least. Absence of Water policy has lead us to this phase of life. A proper infrastructure should be developed to overcome this gigantic Issue to be terminated.

India is constructing 62 minor and major dams and will be producing 30000 Mega Watt of electricity following are one of them

• URI Dam
• Karchan Dam
• Salal Dam
• Wullar Barrage

Now, if we are able to conserve water worth of billions dollars, we’ll be able to invest in agricultural as Pakistan has the world largest irrigation system. We could revive our money in few years. These savings shall be invested for human development but this comes after saving water if we are able to save water, it’s time to take necessary steps for supplying it to masses without being contaminated.

After water conservation the biggest issue is unsafe drinking water. Although water is naturally available in its pure form but the inhabitants of the world don’t care about this noble blessing of God. They kept neglecting all the harms of drinking unhealthy water and they tend to do what a civilized person shouldn’t be doing.

As in Islam “SAFAI NISF IMAAN HAI” we lose our half Iman in sanitation process because we clean our houses and throw the crash, garbage and shit material at open ground or usually near to water spill ways which leads to produce very harmful different type of bacteria and they make a way to contaminate water. We aren’t done yet the sewerage system used often for human waste is developed so cruelly that it accompany the water supply pipes at major points and people of urban areas end up drinking their own shit.

Secondly the so called billionaire company owners who had invested in Billion dollar company follows the same practice and they throw their company scrap and chemicals near their companies in open land causing environmental problems or will through their acidic solutions into rivers. This makes it even worse. The so called liberated and educated people are educated un-educated.

Some severe and revolutionary steps must be taken to conquer this buzz, otherwise the Humans who are the best creature may face no difference in them and wandering hungry dogs who eats shits and garbage but when they sit, they sit to clean. If we stop throwing our household crash, garbage in open space this maybe the very first step for sanitizing the water.

Water issue is so hyped up that According to the UN assessment report the Future Wars aren’t going to be the wars of superiority or conquering each other but instead of that they’ll be for Water.
