Whitney Houston is an amazing singer with natural beauty, she was one of the first black ladies to appear on the cover of Seventeen Magazine, and when she was nineteen, whitney was discovered at a nightclub, and was signed right away.
At the 30th Grammy Awards the song won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. “The single was a commercial success, topping the charts in 13 countries including Australia, Italy, Germany and the UK. In the US, it became her fourth consecutive number one single and sold over one million copies, making it her biggest hit in that country at the time.” ("I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).") When this song dropped on the charts, it was only to make room for another one of her songs, her version of “I Will Always Love You.”
While many songs these days go something like, “...bounce that booty on my d*ck,” Whitney sang with heart. She just wanted somebody to dance with her, somebody who loves her. Songs these days are about one night stands, how many people a person has slept with, and who’s slept with who. Whitney kept it classy, her music is about being in love, making love with someone who a person is in love with, “I've been in love and lost my senses,” and “I wanna feel the heat with somebody...somebody who loves me.”
Not only do the lyrics to her songs make Whitney a star, but her voice alone is enough to win over a crowd. Houston’s mesmerizing voice was that of a soprano. Whitney’s longest note is 16 seconds long. Imagine holding your breath for sixteen seconds, but also using all of the oxygen inside of you to push out an extraneous note. Her talent does not stop there, her voice was at pretty impressive 3.2 octaves.
Whitney's song was so successful, there are several covers of it that and been performed live by other famous singers. Also, there are several videos on YouTube of young girls singing their heart out, who believe they’re the next Whitney. Not only are there covers, but also parodies, such as, “I Wanna Take Shots With Somebody.”
Although Whitney has passed, she will never be forgotten; her voice and lyrics will be singing in our hearts forever.
