In a world of digitalization, society may want to hold on to some traditions of the past. One of these traditions is drawing traditionally, which means drawing on paper. However, digital art is clearly the superior way to go when it comes to art. Drawing digitally is better than drawing traditionally because it is more convenient and easier to master. While artists have their preference, digital art is still objectively the better way to draw when it comes to deciding between the two options.
The first reason digital art is better than traditional art is because of the convenience of it. It offers new aspects that cannot be achieved with paper and pencil. Instead of carrying around pencils, a sketchbook, and markers, one has the ability to carry all of that inside their phone, computer, or tablet. Costly materials such as Copics are now accessible for free with applications such as Autodesk Sketchbook. One also does not get messy with digital art as they would with traditional art, whether it be pencil smudges on the side of a hand or watercolors on shirts.
The second reason digital art is better than traditional art is because of how easy it is to master it. With new advances in technology, applications are able to show videos and real-time tutorials on how to draw. For example, the 3DS game Disney Art Academy shows tutorials on how to draw Disney characters. With the new advances in digital art, blending, blurring, and color effects are so much easier to master. On paper, it would take years to learn how to blend correctly and how to properly shade.
One flaw many people point out with digital art is that art tablets and computers are extremely expensive on the market today. Tablets can cost thousands of dollars and even just a phone that has access to drawing apps can cost hundreds of dollars. Softwares such as Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai also cost money which adds up if someone is a new artist and buying all of these products straight away. While it is true that digital art is a big investment, especially if someone is new to art, the cost of professionally drawing on paper is more expensive. Paints, pencils, pens, markers, and finding a safe space to store artwork and materials will eventually be more costly in the long run. Materials also never run out digitally like they do traditionally, which only adds more cost to the traditional route.
In conclusion, there are many more benefits to digital drawing that allow an artist to grow and develop. Digital art has many more benefits that outweigh the perks of traditional art. Drawing digitally is better than drawing traditionally not only because of convenience but also because of the resources that are available to them to help them learn and master them.
