Machiavelliclaimed many years ago: "Which states that, a leader is there to make the difficult decisions for his subjects. It is not his responsibility to be liked or loved, but instead to be feared and respected, that’s isn't to say that he should be cruel. The prince is there to provide for his subject’s stability and governance." The first leader that came to mind that accurately depicts the characteristics Machiavelli described above would be no other than Martin Luther King Jr. King will always be remembered and respected until the end of the world. His leadership roles were revolutionary, and his courage was impeccable.
As Machiavelli claimed a leader is there to make difficult decisions for his subjects. Martin Luther King Jr. did just that. Not only were the decisions difficult for his own safety, but those followers he had as well. With each protest and rally performed, he knew there was a vast chance that someone could be killed and injured. And these instances surely did occur. That was because slavery was widely accepted, and slaveowners became very violent because if a stop was to be placed on slavery, they would lose their free labor. Such labor made these slaveholders very wealthy. Everyone protesting against this was in harms way when they traveled south. Many people did not like King, they hated his methods, and many hated him for his skin color. However, he was not in a position to be liked, he cared more about fixing the issue of slavery than having people like him. However, even those who did not agree with him had a sense of respect for him. That is because he was courageous and never gave up.
In the last part of what Machiavelli claimed, he stated that the leader should be there to provide “stability and governance”, and King did just that. He knew that this slavery was highly unjust and although he was luck enough not to be a slave personally, he felt for those who were. It was very unfair that our own government allowed just punishment to these individuals. Slaves were treated worse than the most hated animals. Many were beaten, raped, and separated from their family. King was an activist, and stood for what he wanted, which was for blacks to be treated equally and no longer be slaves to the white man. He provided an idea, and many followed him in those efforts, even white individuals. He was a strong leader and deserves the utmost respect by all.
