In Alexander Graham Bell’s words, “Preparation is the key to success.” (Alexander Graham Bell) The path to success, specifically in school, is the preparation and mindset taking place before school or a class starts. School should begin later than the start time of 8:00 o’clock to allow students more sleep, preparation, and better attendance. Therefore, let's analyze why should school start later in the morning persuasive in more detail.
An early morning to kick off the school day inflicts students with tiredness and the inability to concentrate in their classes. Teenagers (ages 14–17) need 8–10 hours each night. When students do not obtain enough sleep each night, they are unable to perform at their full potential throughout the day. Students who also participate in extracurricular activities can compete at higher levels when they are well-rested. The importance of a proficient amount of sleep enhances the quality of a student's academic performance. Overall, a later start time beginning the school day would amplify a student's overall health.
Students desperately need a focused mindset to fulfill their responsibilities at school. Taking the time before school begins so students, themselves, can prepare for the tasks needed to be accomplished on that particular day. People who don’t sleep well also can’t process what they had learned the day before. Students need a sufficient amount of time to assess their upcoming assignments, tests, projects, and quizzes. Better grades will be the result of more time for preparation with a later start time for the school day. Additionally, students will excel in their academics with the opportunity to evaluate their responsibilities.
Students will achieve better attendance due to later start times for the school day. Studies have shown that students who attend schools whose school day begins later than 8 a.m. obtain better attendance records. When high schools start at 8:30 a.m. or later, attendance rates and graduation rates improve, according to a new study. Students are allowed to accomplish more sleep when school does not start so early, which also leads students to now wake up on time and make it to school for the designated new start time. However students struggle with attending the early start time for school, so in turn, the attendance rates would increase when school begins at a later time.
Students will thrive with better attendance and grades in a result of school beginning later than the existing time. This extra time will allow students to prepare for their classes and upcoming events if they are not given such an early start. Students will gain better overall health with more sleep and time to adopt a focused mindset. It is important for students to start their day later because it will assist them in better performance throughout the day.
