Teenagers often get to hear about the importance of having good manners. Good manners can be defined as the expected social conduct or acceptable conduct that parents or teachers often ask from students. The essay will analyze the extent to which good manners are important.

Good manners reflect our own personality. It is a mirror of our soul. So it is important we give a good image of ourselves. When someone greets us, we are expected to return the greetings very kindly. It is about projecting how nice we can be to others. It is very important for the smooth running of the society. We cannot imagine a world where people stop greeting each other when meeting. That would be weird.

Also, good manners refer to helping people. We are humans and we should help other humans as well. Chivalry is not expected only from men. We women can also offer our seats to elderly people entering the bus and also to pregnant ladies. Helping elderly people to cross the road and to carry their bags are also examples of good manners. In fact, it is an easy way to have the blessings of elderly people. It also makes us happy.

Moreover, at school good manners would mean to greet teachers, to be polite to peers, and to return the book borrowed from the library on the due date. When students show such qualities, they are also indirectly working to be a disciplined person which will help them in the future. Good mannered students are attentive to class and this is why they have higher chances of academic success.

Even at work, good manners are expected. Always arriving on time, meeting deadlines and entertaining a good relationship with colleagues are expected to maintain a good image of us and also to maintain the job as well. Everybody has to do their share of work but helping out people who are unable to complete theirs is also a good quality which is very much appreciated in the workplace.

Finally, as seen above, good manners can be practiced in our daily lives without much effort. It requires a simple greeting, offering a helping hand and so on which in turn, turn us into disciplined individuals who grow with good manners and who can in turn, pass them on to the future generation.
