Why The Movie The Great Debaters is Worth Watching

In my opinion, this movie is great to watch. It teaches us the basics of debating and stats the quote of colour has nothing to do with who you are. This movie, The Great Debaters, was held in the 1930’s. This is the time when America is starting to change for both whites and African Americans. This movie shows the trip of four people on the Wiley College debate team. The team faced problems for being African Americans in America. Three students, in the Willey College in Texas joined the debate team, where they challenge and defeated both African American and white schools.

This movie explains us about conflicts and consequences, that the debate team faced during their journey. During their journey the team discovered the results of both past and current events in America. The movie shows the characters learning to deal with the challenges of being an African American debate team and how will they able to meet those challenges ahead on. When Harvard university debate team accepts a challenge from the Wiley College debate team. Therefore, they show the world that color has nothing to do with who you are. In the movie, they show the struggle happening between the African Americans and whites. Also, in the film they introduce you to four characters that are part of a debate team at a small Wiley college in Texas. The movie shows the challenges that the debate team faced. During the film, there were tons of important scenes that show what it was like to be an African American in the 1930’s. On the bus scene with Samantha, whites enjoyed on getting a front row seat while African Americans were forced to sit in the back. This happened due to the skin colour of the African Americans. Due to that, we know that white people have more power than African Americans. Later on, When James Jr., and his family were traveling by car. They accidently hit and killed a white man’s pig. James’ father was forced to pay much more than the pig was worth.

This movie brings up a lot of problems between Mr. Lowe and Samya and Mr. James. At the time of debate team tryouts, Mr. James liked Ms. Samya, but the problem was that Mr Lowe also liked Ms. Samaya. And that caused a lot of conflicts, between them. These problems became continued and affected the debate team. But that did not affect Ms Samaya and Mr Lowe. Then days passed, the day came up of the debate competition against Harward University. Mr. lowe became in charge of the Wiley debate team. The debaters from Wiley college were Mr James and Ms Samaya. After, a lot of debates between Harvard and Wiley College. Furthermore, Wiley college turned out to be the winner. Then, Mr. Lowe became a minster and Mr. James became an Soical rights leader and Ms. Samthan became a lawyer. As a result, the movie was worth watching because it teaches you the fundamentals of how to debate.
