A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor tells a atory about an old woman who takes a trip with her son and his family to Florida. The old woman doesn't want to go because she's heard about a convict who has escaped from jail and is on the loose in Florida. After having a car accident caused by the old woman's cat that she snuck into the car, the family is stranded on the side of the road. Three men soon approach, saying they saw the accident happen.
The story takes place on and around back country roads in the South. The family lives in Atlanta and is traveling through Georgia on their way to Florida.
As for the time, the era of the story is never explicitly defined, but given the cars and the mention of Gone With the Wind (published as a book in 1936 and released as a movie in 1939), we can guess it's the 1940's or later. Since there's no mention of a war going on, and the grandmother says that "the way Europe acted you would think we were made of money", it's almost certainly after WWII. Since O'Connor wrote this story in 1953, we're going to place it in the late 40's or early 50's.
