Growing up in a small town, I have always been fascinated with the way roads, bridges and buildings were built. I have always been curious about how the infrastructure we take for granted in our daily lives was constructed. As I grew older, my fascination with civil engineering only grew stronger. My parents encouraged me to pursue my dreams and so I decided to become a civil engineer.
The idea of creating something that would serve the community and help people was what initially drew me to civil engineering. However, it was a specific event in my life that truly solidified my desire to become a civil engineer.
When I was younger, my town was hit by a massive storm. Many of the buildings in the town were destroyed and the roads were severely damaged. It was a chaotic time for the community and many were left without homes or shelter. The devastation was overwhelming, but what struck me the most was how the community came together to rebuild what had been destroyed. The sense of unity and purpose that everyone had was truly inspiring. The civil engineers were on the front line of this rebuilding effort, working tirelessly to make the community livable again. Seeing their work and how much it meant to the people of the community was what truly inspired me to become a civil engineer.
Since then, I have taken every opportunity to learn more about the field of civil engineering. I have taken classes in physics, mathematics and computer-aided design. I have also volunteered my time at community events, helping to build structures and help those in need. Through these experiences, I have seen firsthand the impact that civil engineers can have on the world.
I am excited to pursue my passion at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Their civil engineering program has a reputation for excellence, and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field is a major draw. The school's focus on practical, hands-on experience will give me the skills I need to succeed in the real world. I am also excited about the opportunity to work with other like-minded students, who share my passion for creating a better world through civil engineering.
In the future, I hope to use my knowledge and skills to help rebuild communities that have been affected by natural disasters. I believe that the work of civil engineers is incredibly important in creating a more just and equitable world. I am confident that with the education and experience I will receive at the Georgia Institute of Technology, I will be well-equipped to make a meaningful impact on the world.
