My application for MEd psychology of education is done after careful deliberation. Firstly, my growth experience enabled me to realise the vital importance of education. I firmly believe that education can change a person’s destiny. In the junior high school, I was lucky to meet a preeminent teacher, whose teaching did not get bogged down on textbooks, while she cultivated our interest in learning and ability to think independently from various aspects. In the meantime, she attached equal importance to the students’ psychological changes. Thus, her teaching methods are filled with humanistic concern. She has been one of the reasons for me to pursue an education career. Influenced by her, I became an active, diligent, and responsible girl. My life has been changed by education. It has opened up a new world which is full of opportunities for me. Likewise, I hope to change others’ lives through education as well. Therefore, I aspire to be engaged in the area of education and dream to work as an educator.
Secondly, my life objective entails adequate knowledge reserve in educational psychology. At present, China’s fundamental education system is still centred on exam-oriented education, lack of emphasis on students’ psychological development. Students can learn exam-taking techniques under this system, but there is no systematic program to instruct them on building a thorough value system, which has a negative influence on adolescents’ overall development. Now, in China, education is playing a significant role in the current national transformation. As for me, this is an important opportunity for self-development as well. Hence, I hope to gain more professional learning in this area to master a knowledge of educational psychology and allow me to assist students to not only learn knowledge but also enjoy their school life.
I have made full preparations for my further studies in psychology of education. Majoring in psychology and minoring in education facilitate me to obtain the domain knowledge of both fields. It is not an easy journey but my determination has helped me to come over all the difficulties. My excellent academic performances in such courses as Cognitive Process and The learner enabled me to better understand the mentality of students and analyse their learning behaviour.
What is important in education? This question has lingered in my head. Drawing the essence from my undergraduate education, I have noticed that qualities such as mindset and evidence-based teaching/learning are influential on students’ learning. That intrigues the curiosity me to explore the frontiers of professional knowledge in educational psychology.
