My Creative Side: College Admission Essay Sample

I express my creative side through theatre. The entire rehearsal process leading up to a production is exciting to be involved in, and I love to watch the show come together bit by bit. It’s fascinating to see how many different aspects have to come together perfectly to put on a good show, and it still amazes me how we do it, even after all my time in the department. Although acting has been my focus, recently I’ve made it a point to become more involved in the tech side of productions. My involvement in just about every aspect of theatre enhances my appreciation even further for all the work that needs to be done, because every job, no matter how small, is necessary, and each introduces another opportunity for creativity.It doesn’t matter to me the type of show or the genre– dramas, comedies, musicals, I love them all! Acting has a special place in my heart because whenever I step into the spotlight, literally or figuratively, I become a whole new person. Being involved in theatre allows me to reveal or discover sides of myself that are usually hidden. When I’m in character, I’m free to express myself without fear of judgment– no one judges you when you’re not you. This is why I love being able to express my creativity through acting, because there are no limits! There’s an endless array of characters out there, and while each has its own traits, there’s always plenty of wiggle room. For this reason, every time I play a different role, I enjoy the freedom I have in being able to make the role my own and there’s nothing that lets me express my creativity in this way like theatre.
