I have always considered myself creative and hard working. I have been taught to never give up and try my best in everything. Much of my youth was spent watching space documentaries and reading encyclopedias on spacecrafts and aircrafts. One of my favorite documentaries about space, is “APOLLO 11”. I was curious about the astronauts and their mission and how things work in space. How does gravity work? That was the first question that I asked my physics teacher when I was 13 years old. This background, combined with the enjoyment of physics and mathematics, has given me a desire to study aerospace engineering at university.
The skills that I have gained from my AS and A Level choices have aided me further in my preparation for an engineering course. I picked mathematics because I found the connection to my everyday life to be reassuring. Both statistics and mechanics require precision and accuracy, thus A-level Math incorporates a variety of talents. Taking both A-level Maths and Physics will help me understand the physics elements of an engineering course better, because maths helps me to learn and engage with the ideas that many physics formulas and rules are built on. Studying for an A-level in Physics has given me a better knowledge of some of the world's fundamental principles. Physics aims to improve your understanding of how the world works from the lowest to the most complex levels. I also study A-level Biology which has helped me develop my practical skills, analytical thinking, research, report writing, and teamwork. It also helped me to use the right laboratory equipment and materials to collect data and then use a variety of data analysis skills to interpret the data. I enjoyed studying the immune system the most out of all the topics we've covered so far.
This October marked the end of my four-year stay in. When I was in Year 10, I was unable to apply for work experience due to linguistic barriers. Unfortunately, the pandemic prevented me from applying the following year due to quarantine, but it did not prevent me from applying for a virtual work experience in aerospace engineering. Back in Greece, in Year 6 and 7, I volunteered to help younger students with Greek orthography and math difficulties during after-school clubs. In Year 13, I am currently helping Year 8 students in improving their reading skills. I competed in the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls and the Senior Mathematical Challenge this year, I enjoyed the opportunity and while I did not achieve a high martok, I did challenge myself and put my abilities to test.
I used to dance traditional and modern dance and play basketball in elementary school. In Years 7,8 and 9 I was a member of a volleyball team in Greece. I haven't done much for the past two years because I've been focusing on my A-levels. In my free time, I enjoy watching documentaries and TED-Ed videos on YouTube, reading a variety of books, listening to pop music, and singing. I am looking forward to getting involved in many aspects of university life.
