My Interest in Advanced Master of Social Work (MSW) Program

I am interested in pursuing an Advanced MSW program because of different reasons. First, it will offer me a chance to explore a wider range of social work topics without having to repeat what I had already learned in the previous degree programs. To be competitive in the job market, I need a broad range of skills and knowledge on different topics within the social work faculty. The advanced program will help expose me to this wider scholarly scope. Instead of spending more resources on learning what I already encountered in the undergraduate degree program, the Advanced MSW program will help me build on the knowledge I have acquired to become more skilled in my career as a social worker. The biggest benefit that I stand to gain by pursuing this program relates to the amount of time I might end up saving. Rather than following with traditional MSW route, I may spend half the time to complete my graduate program if I enroll for the Advanced MSW program. Another important reason why I have an interest in pursuing this program is that it will cement my licensure as a social worker in the United States. My credibility as a social worker stands to improve greatly if I successfully pursue and complete this course. The MSW degree will be essential in advancing my career as a social worker. For instance, the research skills and expertise I will have gained will help me in analyzing social work problems facing different vulnerable populations across communities.

The decision to pursue a graduate degree at Capella University was informed by myriad reasons. First, I am intrigued by the great research culture that is promoted at Capella University. The institution fosters a great culture of research that I find meaningful and highly important at this level of study. I would want to nurture my research skills in an institution where this culture is promoted. Another reason for choosing Capella University is the great technological orientation that it has shown recently. A graduate degree program requires various technological resources including fast internet and a state-of-the-art library that are found at the institution. I believe I made the right decision to settle for Capella University for my graduate program.

The internet will be one of the most important resources that I will be using in the course of my graduate program at Capella University. I have used the internet before in my undergraduate program to communicate with other learners and share important information. Emails and social media are some of the important communication tools that I intend to make use of as I pursue my graduate program at the university.

I believe I am in the best position to pursue the graduate program now because of the immense experience that I have gained working with different clients in the past have attained my undergraduate degree. The level of professional development I have so far attained makes me a better candidate for the graduate program that I seek to pursue. For instance, most of the basic social work principles I have learned and applied during my practical work experience are more meaningful than ever. It will be easy to understand the advanced-level concepts as I pursue the graduate program.

It is worth pointing out that my academic progress to date has been nothing short of success despite the few challenges I have experienced. As shown in my GPA, I have constantly tried to make improvements by finding better ways in which I can attain better grades and expose myself to better theoretical and practical experiences. I have no doubt that continued academic pursuit at the graduate level will boost my academic qualifications as a social work professional.

Social justice is a critical area in the field of social work that cannot be overlooked when discussing the qualifications and experiences of an individual as a social worker. My encounters as a social work professional have enabled me to tackle various social justice issues worth pointing out. While working with minority employees in a given organization, I discovered a wide racial gap when it comes to compensation. Some of the people I worked with raised an issue of racial discrimination when it comes to how they are paid for the labor services they offer. This was a major issue raised mostly by the African-Americans and other groups of color. I had to work closely with both the employer and the employees to address this issue. My commitment to social justice and equality is the reason I took this issue very seriously. I hope to continue using my expertise and skills to address unfairness, discrimination, and racial segregation to address problems such as the one I encountered. I realized that the pay gap is not only based on race but also gender among other demographics. I also hope that my graduate studies will put me in the best position to not only understand these social problems but also to develop effective measures on how they can be addressed.
