Mathematics is the foundation of understanding the world. As a branch of mathematics, statistics play an increasingly important role in today's world. Statistics can describe everything as mathematical models, which can describe everything from the stock market to medicine
For example, during my final year in undergraduate in Japan, I watched a film called “The Big Short”. In 2008, Wall Street guru Dr. Michael Burry realizes that many subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting with statistics. Burry bets against the housing market by throwing more than $1 billion of his investors' money into credit default swaps. Eventually, Burry's analysis proved correct: he earned a personal profit of $100 million and a profit for his remaining investors of more than $700 million. The S&P 500, widely regarded as the benchmark for the US market, returned just under 3% including dividends over the same period. This made me made up my mind after graduating from Japan I would go to the United States for my master's in statistics.
I have completed my Bachelor in Economy in Japan (2015). I did not learn Japanese at all before I went to Japan to study for my bachelor's degree. That caused my GPA was a little low. When I was in DMACC, I was an honor student. I was also a peer tutor for statistics and calculus I and II for six semesters. I was also in the honor program and a PTK (phi theta kappa) member. I have taken Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, and Numerical Methods, all prerequisites for your distinguished Master's Degree Program in Statistics at the Iowa State University, my first choice for graduate school.
I am very proficient in R and SAS. At the same time as completing my project, I have to study R, which synchronizes subjective knowledge with practical work and expands my programming knowledge.
I am very interested in the master of statistics program at Iowa State University. My master's degree will broaden my research scope and provide a strong foundation and relevance for my statistical work.
Considering all the facts, what I have learned and accumulated experience always inspires me to devote myself to the field of statistical research. In the important field of statistics, I prefer to focus on mathematical finance, Bayesian statistics, time series analysis, and stochastic process. No matter what aspect my research focuses on, if I can draw fruitful conclusions and add value to my future career prospects, I will be willing to accept the challenge to complete the research. When I was browsing the Internet, I found a teacher in the Department of mathematics and statistics, Dr. Cindy l Yu, who worked on the XXX project. I see that our research interests are almost the same. So I contacted her.
She inspired me to apply for a graduate program, and if I am selected, she will be my research supervisor and possibly be discussing more on her current research.
After completion of this master's degree, my next target will be to have a Ph.D. degree in this field. Then I will return to my home country and would like to dedicate myself to the research of Statistics and apply statistical methods to real-life data to address more important issues. I would love to join the research organizations in my country, who actively work on statistical sectors. They need manpower with strong academic and research backgrounds. I would also like to teach Statistics at the university level. There are some well-reputed government and private universities in my country, which need faculty members for the subject 'Statistics', to teach the students and also to conduct some research on various sectors. So if I can strongly prepare myself to contribute to the people of my country, it will be like a dream come true. In the long run, both the Teaching and Research profession of me will contribute to my country.
The graduate program in Statistics at Iowa State University is extremely relevant to my above future career plans. I know the university will provide a strong dynamic environment within which to improve my knowledge and skills and develop my career. I believe that the training I will receive pursuing a graduate study at Iowa State University and research experience will give me the expertise to function as an independent academic investigator so that I have the opportunity to pursue some of the areas of research in which I am interested.
