While the entire world is concerned about the scarcity of resources, I believe there are plentiful human capitals that can be used effectively as the most salient resource. The significance of human resource administration is not only important for building a strong and sustainable business but also pivotal for a dynamic society. Since the core of every successful business is its workforce-the employees, the function of Human resources management is vital for preserving business growth and expansion. An efficient Human resource department is deemed as an asset for enterprises as it contributes in recruitment, retention, training and development of qualified employees. I comprehended the exciting career prospects in human resource management while I was working as a Trainee at ‘BSRA limited’, a tour and travel planning company. I have been working in this field for more than three years and my journey so far has been exciting and instructive. However, recently I understood I require further knowledge and academic qualification in this field to move forward in my career. Hence, this essay for university admission is an example where I am applying to University of Windsor for a place in the ‘Master of Management’ program. The ‘Master of Management in HRM’ by Odette School of Business is one the best graduate programs in Canada and it will aid immensely in my professional development.
I am currently working at ‘BSRA limited’ as ‘Human Resource Executive’. I initially started as a Trainee in September 2015 and joined on permanent basis from January 2016. Over the years I have gathered valuable insights about HR operations from experienced industry professionals. I also fathomed the immense application of Human resource management in organizational context and its prominent impact on business development. Some of my key responsibilities are; sourcing, hiring and training qualified candidates, assisting with payroll, maintaining employee records , monitoring office budget, maintaining liaison with various stakeholders and supervising administrative staff to name a few. I have conducted numerous interviews and training programs during my tenure as a human resource professional. As the company regularly hires interns and contractual employees to aid the sales department, I am often handed with the responsibility of evaluating their performance. Moreover I am also responsible for addressing and mediating employee concerns whenever deemed required. Even though, my work experience in this field was extremely rewarding, I felt I require advanced learning and expertise to fulfill my goal of becoming a HR manager.
However, in this highly competitive job market a Master degree is essential to move up the ladder to work as a manager in any company. Therefore, after months of thorough research I have decided to apply to University of Windsor in ‘Master of Management in HRM’ program. Located in the beautiful city of Windsor-Ontario, this university has a reputation of mentoring students to the right path to become educated, employable and competent global leaders. The Odette School of Business has an excellent academic environment that is enriched with a number of accomplished faculty members and high-quality teaching. Moreover, the ‘Master of Management’ program is accredited by AACSB which is a strong reflection of its quality and high standards. Therefore, pursuing this degree will add great value to my profile. This program will shift my current level of knowledge and skills to a more advanced level and enhance my knowledge of business operations further beyond human resource management. I was thrilled to read through the course offerings of Odette School of Business, as I have found a solid parity between what it offers and my expectations from the program. It is designed to produce efficient business managers who can successfully perform in a diverse and volatile workplace environment. Upon completion of this program I will have deeper understanding of current practical, intellectual and policy changes in human resource management. Most importantly, I will have developed an understanding of relationship between HRM and implementation of business strategies in an international context. In addition, Canada is the favored destination of many international students because of its multicultural and multi linguistic societies. Its cordial surroundings will help me to adapt and complete my education without any difficulties.
From an academic and a professional context, I consider myself a good fit for this program. As any common application essay I will describe my academic background. I completed my BBA in Marketing from North South University, a top ranked university of Bangladesh. I have maintained an average GPA of 3.33 in the final two years of my education and passed successfully with a CGPA 3.10 out of 4. Besides my modest academic performance I was an active participant in extracurricular activities during my academic years. I was in the governing body of North South University – Social Service Club from 2012-14. I contributed in the club by organizing multiple events during my time as a member. Perhaps the most significant one was in 2012 when the club organized ‘The 16th Convocation’ of North South University. As one of the head organizers I administrated a group of 27 student volunteers and coordinated the entire event successfully. Furthermore, I was also a member of ‘Youth of Bangladesh’, an independent non-profit organization, from 2011-2013. The organization often arranged awareness campaigns and volunteering events to aid the homeless and underprivileged citizens of Bangladesh. I served as the team leader of my designated area from 2012-2013 and organized volunteering operations on numerous occasions. My experience in volunteering and event management stiffened my leadership and communication skills from an early stage and has paved the way for my eventful career in human resource management.
I believe this degree will be my golden ticket to a long and prosperous career in human resource management. My aim is to establish myself as a successful HR manager. After completing my degree I intent to return to my home country and resume my role at ‘BSRA limited’. In the next 3 to 5 years I expect to evolve as a competent HR Manager with skills that will contribute in growth of the business. I would also like to explore my opportunities in multinational corporations after some point in my career. With my experience and efficiency in human resource management I am confident I will be a great fit in any business model regardless of industries. Finally within 10 years time, I wish to see myself at the peak of my career with a strong place in the management community and contribute in the development of human resource in Bangladesh.
