The world has seen remarkable Construction innovation in the field of civil engineering in the last decade, from the tallest bridge in India which is under-construction (Chenab Rail Bridge) to longest Bridge in china (Danyang- Kunshan Grand Bridge). I as a civil engineer has appreciated and intrigued by every single mega project like these. My enthusiasm coupled with scope for innovations and opportunities available in the field of Construction Engineering and Management, so it has motivated me to opt for higher studies. I sincerely believe that pursuing graduation at University of Alberta at this juncture of my career will be an ideal step in this direction.

I have completed Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering from Nirma University, Ahmedabad (BATCH-2020). The BTech program is NBA accredited under Tier-I category & Department has well-equipped laboratories pertaining to the various areas of Civil Engineering. During my undergraduate programme, I was given the chance to explore several numbers of different fields in civil engineering such as structural, geotechnical, environmental, construction project management, Transportation and water resources engineering. Having to take the courses from each of these fields, I realize that I have a very strong interest in Construction Engineering & Management because it has engineering and management principles that I find most interesting, challenging and practically satisfying. I had worked diligently these past years to fully understand, and master the concepts of these subjects.

My project for seminar & mini project course, which are offered by University was “Voided Biaxial Slab”. the project was in the group of two students, so we have decided to cast the Concrete cube with help of HDPE void former & the objective was to Compared the compressive strength & density of solid cubes with cubes having hollow sphere. The observation & conclusion of 6 casted concrete cubes (3-voided & 3-solid) was that weight of cube reduces by 17 % by Using the ball of the diameter of 90 mm, which was advantage & compressive strength reduces up to 40%, which was considered a drawback. Additionally, I had Determined the Effective depth, Ultimate limit moment, Reduction of CO2, etc. in the long span slab using the Cobiax software tool as well as daliform software. In that project, I have also carried out analysis and design of cast-in-place voided slab superstructure using the code IRC SP: 64-2005.Furthermore, During the seventh semester, we have chosen the topic “Analytical & Experimental study of Concrete filled double skin tube (CFDST)” for Major Project. The objective of the project was to Plot stress-strain curve for CFDST (Concrete filled double skin tube) column by experimental study & To Find out the load-carrying capacity of CFDST by the analytical study. we have carried out testing of CFDST samples under UTM to plot the stress-strain curve & Axial load carrying capacity of CFDST column was determined with help of EN 1994-1-1:2004 standard. From this project we have concluded that Axial load carrying capacity of CFDST is higher than hollow steel sections & Local buckling Failure was observed, i.e., Inward buckling in hollow tubes & outward buckling in CFDST.

During December 2018, I have fulfilled 7 days 60 hours Winter Internship on structural Engineering, Surveying Techniques, NDT, Green Buildings and Concrete Technologies and worked on a Construction Management Project under the aegis of Experts hub Industry Skill Development Centre from December 13th to 29th ,2018 held at Ashoka Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad.

I was an intern at Civil, building & Track Works for 288 Km Double Railway Line From iqbalgarh-Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor during my summer practical training. The Contractor of the project was SOJITZ-L&T-GAYATRI CONSORTIUM. The L&T had given me the immense opportunities to fortify my Theoretical knowledge through this internship from 27th May 2019 to 10th July 2019, Under the Guidance of Mr Santhosh Kharade – Package Manager & I have gained the Pragmatic exposure of Manufacturing Process of prestressed Railway sleepers by Hoyer system or long line method, Rail Welding Process with help of Flash Butt Welding (FBW) Machine, construction of Drainage Structure for track etc. at ongoing Mega-Project.

During the final 8th semester, I consider myself as a very lucky individual having an internship opportunity with M/s AECOM Asia Company Ltd (General Consultant), at Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project, when completed, it would be the longest sea bridge in India. I was assigned as a trainee site inspector at AECOM Mumbai (MTHL Office) under the Guidance of Mr Avinash Bobadi - Project Engineer – Transit PM Group from January 2nd 2020 to April 30th 2020. I have acquired immense experience in the execution of various construction activities i.e., scheduling of sequential & parallel activities, challenges to complete the activities, testing, construction in a worst climatic condition (summer season), an inspection of activities during and after the construction etc. I have also carried out quantity analysis, rate analysis, time cycle analysis, pouring rate calculation, mix design, procedure sketch, concrete dimensions drawings, reinforcement detailing drawings etc. for different components of the viaduct at Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).

Recently, I have completed my online Internship on Project Planning and Management from Apaha Trainers and consultant private limited, which is IAS (International Accreditation Service) certified. Being an online Intern, I had undertaken a project in Project Planning & Management using Microsoft Project & carried out Basic Settings, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Resource Allocation, Resource Levelling, Tracking, Baseline of task & Generating Different Reports in MS Project From 15th September to 29th September 2020. Thus, my past has given me a good experience of management skills along with in-depth engineering knowledge.

Now at this point in my carrier, I am certain that a Master of Engineering would help me in the further application of knowledge and skill that I have attained during my Bachelor in Technology. Moreover, an extremely distinguished faculty and the state-of-the-art research facilities in the field of Construction Engineering and Management are the most important factors, which motivated me to choose the course MEng in civil and Environmental engineering with Construction engineering and Management emphasis at University of Alberta. In my experience as a student, I know for certain that splendid academic facilities can make a difference in a student's life and learning experience. I am confident that I will rise to standards set by your University for an ideal student. I believe that our future can be made better by working towards it and your colleagues would be an ideal place for me to enhance my skills and increase my knowledge.
