My Motivation to Pursue Master of Engineering in Computer Science

I believe that the key to constant learning is to always have a curious and explorative attitude towards anything and everything. During my undergraduate, I nurtured the idea of shaping my career in the path of doing research. I wasn’t sure of which specialization I should choose, as I was interested in various fields during my schooling. So, I chose Electronics & Communication Engineering as an undergraduate major which is a multi-discipline. In the course of time, I realized I enjoyed program development. This made me realize that I want to pursue Computer science as my master’s degree, which will lead to a career in research and teaching.

My childhood made me think I wouldn’t be anyway related to quantitative but, in contrary, now I excel in quantitative and logical abilities. My interest increased in mathematics and physics as I grew older, to an extent where it led me to opt mathematics, physics, chemistry as my majors in my higher secondary school. I excelled academically with 94% in my secondary school and higher secondary school with 95%. I got enrolled into “VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering & Technology” for my bachelor studies based upon my rank in the entrance exam, which is one among the top Engineering institutes in India. And I have proudly completed my bachelor’s degree with 84%.

During my bachelor studies, I was introduced to diverse courses like C & Data structure, Switching Theory and Logic Design, VLSI and Verilog HDL programming, Java, Instrumentation, Microprocessors & Microcontrollers, Digital Image Processing. In this journey, a computer-related or any programming whether it be a hardware description or software related lured my interest in Computer science. Java in my curriculum increased my interest, and I was amazed for being very interested in programming.

During my undergraduate course, I led a team of four members for the project “Characterization of Behavior state monitoring through Single Electrode EEG device for Medical Application” which studies the state of mind of people. The wide scope of this project is to create a huge database to discover any abnormal behavior of the brain in early stage itself by collecting, organizing and processing the brain signals. I have successfully presented this project in ICTPACT, 2017 conference and got selected for IEEE Xplore which is to be published soon.

As part of campus recruitment, we ought to go through a technical aptitude, practical Java application programming, HR round wherein, I received offer letters from Tech Mahindra and Accenture. I chose Accenture, a global management company, and has been working for almost a year, which gave me an insight of practical client and end-user requirements. As I was involved in different projects, I worked on SQL database management, Java and automation. Working on these, increased my choice of specialization for master’s degree to be Computer science.

I am aware that Universities in the US are well known for their scope of research, academic flexibility and have a reputation of its commitment to excellence. The advancement of Science and Technology is quick and in order to cope up with these advances, I am keen to obtain my master’s degree in the US.

I have been recommended this University by some of my college’s alumni members for its impressive research facilities and reputation. The research facilities and the faculty at your University are par excellent. I was mindful of which university to apply and did a careful study of various universities’ course catalogs and realized the course in your college would best satisfy my goal. Also, I attained mostly mentioned pre-requisites for pursuing a master’s degree in Computer science. I am enthusiastic to be a part in one of the research programs. With this aspiration and commitment, I’m willing to learn from the academically challenging coursework at the University of Cincinnati and fulfill my purpose of learning.
