While there are several professions that are very interesting, medicine has always appealed to me as a unique profession; working with dedication and passion in medicine allows you to positively impact someone’s life. This makes it one of the most rewarding and humbling fields to be a part of. Within this Why do you want to be a doctor essay I will share my academic experinece to show better what passion I have for becoming a doctor. I have also understood that the journey of becoming a doctor is challenging and I have been preparing myself for it since the beginning of high school, so this experience I will share in why do I want to be a doctor essay in further paragraphs.
Throughout High School, Biology has been my favorite subject and I was always eager to learn something new with an elevated interest in the human anatomy. In order to expand my knowledge, I took online courses at FutureLearn offered by the Universities of Leeds and Exeter focusing on “Exploring the Abdomen” and “Genomic Medicine in Diabetes”. These courses further deepened my fascination for the subject. In addition, my interview with the TV Show “Crucial Choice” forced me to pinpoint and articulate exactly why I want to be a doctor, thereby validating my decision. Furthermore, I participated in NASA’s Genes in Space competition by designing an experiment for the ISS to determine the impact of cosmic radiation on proto-oncogene mutations.
Throughout school, I have been involved in a range of co-curricular activities while maintaining high academic scores. I was a part of the JV Volleyball Team, and the Varsity Academic Games and Forensics teams. In addition, I have attended several local and international MUN conferences and debate competitions in Beijing, Netherlands, Luxembourg and other countries which have drastically improved my public speaking skills and confidence. These activities have also made me more considerate of other people’s perspectives and opinions, which is very important when working in the medical profession which requires collaborative efforts.

I shadowed a pediatrician and an immunologist in my week-long internship at Infinity Clinic, Dubai. I also witnessed a few reconstructive surgeries during my shadowing of a plastic surgeon at the Shalby Hospital in India. In addition, I did a 10 day internship at Unicare Clinic in Dubai to understand how a clinic functions.
I have also taken up various service projects such as volunteering at an NGO for underprivileged girls in my hometown, teaching a Basic English Course to female workers in a cleaning and maintenance company in Dubai, as well as volunteering at a school for mentally and physically challenged children in Rishikesh, India. Interacting with people who strive for perfection in life despite numerous challenges has inspired me to do the same and help others in their endeavors. These initiatives also brought forth my patience and dedication while doing things I am passionate about, which are very important qualities for doctors.
