Why I Want to Continue My Education at Georgia College

Throughout my schooling, I have attended a total of three schools. Each of these schools is drastically different from the other, one being a private Christian school, one a public middle school, and one a public visual and performing arts high school. I attended Calvary Day School, a private Christian school, up until the fourth grade. There I was mainly socialized with people of the same upbringing as me. It wasn’t until I made the switch to public school in fifth grade that I really got exposed to different diversities and personalities. I then learned that not everyone was brought up in the same way I was, and I found that so interesting. I instantly became curious about other cultures and other lifestyles that I had never been exposed to before. 

In eighth grade, I auditioned for Savannah Arts Academy and was accepted. I don’t know what I was expecting when I entered high school, but it was both everything and nothing like I expected. Savannah Arts is full of so many different personalities, religions, political beliefs, and talents. It was here that I gained a whole new respect for individuality and diversity. It has been so cool seeing how people can be so unique and different from one another, and yet work so well together. However, I don’t think I would have gained such a huge respect for diversity and individuality if I had not attended that private Christian school. I think I had to experience a much more secluded and less diverse situation in order to really understand how important individuality and diversity really is. I would love to continue to go to school in a place that celebrates human diversity and individuality, and I think Georgia College is just the place.
