In this society during this era where education is sometimes taken for granted, it is wise to step down and reconsider what education means whether that is to simply acquired a job skill or broaden the mind with knowledge and go as far as possible for what education has to offered. Although vocational education can give college students the opportunity to enter the workforce with the skills in that field, college students should carefully consider the investment of a general education because it often comes with its benefits and can lead to a path of personal fulfillment and having a successful career.

To start, higher education has been an important aspect in this society. It has tremendously impacted college students in particularly and what it can mean for this society and the coming generations ahead of us. Most often, college students do not pay any attention to education in that they attend classes for the sole purpose of being in class. I strongly believe that vocational education or trade school in the assents will not give individuals the chance to reach their fullest potentials and accomplished their goals and aspirations in life and beyond. Simply wanting to acquire a degree to be able to perform a certain task in a particular field such as a mechanic or plumber is absolutely a path that may lead to many shortcomings. Therefore for this reason it should be avoided at all cost.

In addition, for some individuals education is the key to a more satisfying and rewarding career in the near future. So what if a college student has to spend an extra ten or twelve more years to be in medical school or pharmacy school? When one analyzes this in depth, they often realized that it is about the quality of the education, essentially not how fast an individual finishes his or her degree to have a certain skill to be able to perform a task. Considering what education is for, it is not a race and should be thoroughly be examine in great context. For this purpose government official has taken it in their best interest in building entire college dormitories and implemented state of the art technology for students to invest in their prestigious college mostly Ivy League colleges such as Harvard, Yale, or Cornell, many MIT programs for those who are interested in engineering and a number of high ranking in state college such as Georgia Tech or the University of Chicago. In assents, education is a topic that is value highly for some individuals and not to others and this is particularly important for those who choose to only go as far as to achieve a vocational education.

Subsequently, we all know that college graduates who have completed their Masters or Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) are higher in the career ladder than those who just opt to pursue vocational training. With a Masters or a Doctorate Degree an individual now has given themselves the opportunity to be in the upper class of this most damaging economy where the price of gas has risen from three dollars and twenty-five cents to four dollars and fifty cents. That may not seem a lot but it makes a huge different in the total average life span for that individual when they stop at Race Trace or Quickie Trip for gas on their way to college. Likewise, we all know that having a Doctorate Degree clearly sets you apart from other individuals in that society consider these individuals to be well educated. Eventually investing in General Education is not that tiresome or momentous, but rather gratifying and rewarding.

In opposition, students who are pursuing a vocational education might argue that there are benefits to pursuing this type of education. For starters, vocation education accomplishes a career goal in a relatively short amount of time and at times maybe more convenience for that individual. For example, there are college students who simply have financial struggles in their family and cannot make ends meet to even consider investing in general education. Also, students who complete their vocation education tended to become productive tax paying citizens in this society. More individual who are in disagreement with general education, might say vocational education can help give make to the community because the taxes that they have to pay yearly help builds schools and paved our highways and roads.

Likewise, although that might be true, general education is still the better option in the long run. With regards to vocational education, although general education requires college students to have more years of schooling, it often provides students with more opportunity in that they have a professional career such as being a doctor or lawyer. To prove that college students should invest in general education if money is the issue, they can always get a part time job if their families are having financial struggles. In addition, essentially college graduates who complete their Masters or Doctorate degree consequently are required to pay a higher tax which is a disadvantage to those individuals but nevertheless it is contributing to the community.

To continue with, general education also has its advantages. Essentially college graduates who have a Masters or Doctorate degree receive a better salary than those who do not. College graduates who pursue vocational education in particular have to only acquire an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree. In addition, those individual who receive their Doctorate degree have higher analytical skills and can think at a higher level than those who just completed a Bachelor’s degree. An Individuals with professional degrees in particular are what society looks for to interpret and analyze issues such as legal issue pertaining to our government or medical ethics.

To conclude, college students should make it their top priority to considered investing in general education because it is worth it and o pays off in the end while vocation education can only do so much for an individual as far as salary goes. College students have to realize that they have to work hard as far as education goes. The more years an individual’s put into education the more benefits they are likely to receive such as a higher salary. For all those who are considering vocational education, it is always best to reanalyze the possibility of what a general education can do for these individuals.
