This piece is not meant to be coherent, as I am quite an inconsistent individual. Instead, I wish to display my own growing indecisiveness and tangential thoughts in relation to my upbringing. Once complete, I hope my rambling and varied thoughts can act as a reflection of who I am. In essence, this informative piece is simply an illustration of my muddled methods of trying to "find myself." There is a lot more to me than a vague theory or constructed list of characteristics can capture, and I feel this is the most genuine way of letting you meet me, the person, filling in the gaps with hopes that you might be able to relate. From there, I expect to circle back from my early thoughts on self-reflection and into another narrative, but honestly, I can never be too sure with me.
Let's talk about me. I want to explore my personality and delve into my thoughts and actions. It's important to take a step back and deeply understand oneself. Although I know who I am, self-inquiry allows for further evaluation and revelation of unconsidered details. I encourage readers to try it themselves. Knowing oneself better improves mental well-being.
My mom shaped me. Walks with her. Discussions expanded my horizons. Taught not to take everything at face value. Learned to respect everyone. Close circle of friends. Enjoyed new experiences. Intercultural exchange was amazing. Traveled and lived with host families. Pushed boundaries to understand my abilities.
I believe that every experience counts in shaping personalities and responses. I have had the opportunity to interact with a lot of people coming from different walks of life. Almost all of these people had something new to offer. I feel that it is possible to learn something from each and every human being. Personality is a progressive accumulation of values, virtues, and morals gained through the course of life. Everyone I have met, regardless of who they are, has had an impact on my personality and made me what I am today. I cannot ignore anyone who helped me get to this stage. Some of them are mentors who drove me toward excellence, while others are friends who are with me in moments of happiness and sadness. They share the bond of Ubuntu and all in my home village. I am a curious person who is constantly seeking more knowledge in different fields. A few of the important aspects of my personality developed during my developmental years are a zest for life and eagerness to acquire knowledge, enhanced creativity, and an urge to push myself to greater heights each time.
I believe that resilience is my most significant trait. I like to believe that I am strong and can handle whatever life throws at me. My ability to bounce back when I am knocked down is something that I take pride in. Unfortunately, I think that I can let my strength be a little overwhelming for others. I remember when my little sister graduated from high school and was writing a paper to get a college scholarship. She was required to write about a significant influence in her life. She chose to write about me and used the metaphor about strength, stating that "if you were to wrap all the strength of the world in one person, you would get my sister." I always remember being a little taken aback by that. I know that I can be competitive and have always tried to come across as the strongest, fastest, or smartest person in the room while socializing with others. I was not sure whether it was a compliment or if she was hinting that I could have had a more empathetic ear.
Growing up, my mother emphasized the importance of understanding others. She exposed us to a range of people, encouraging us to ask questions and develop compassion. Despite not always agreeing or liking someone, I believe in treating everyone with decency and respect. Having experienced prejudice, I remember to approach what I hear with caution.
Throughout my life, I have faced personal obstacles that made me doubt my ability to endure unforeseen circumstances. I once believed that in my weakest moments, a significant other would always be there to support and uplift me. Explaining my situation without sounding overly dramatic has always been challenging, as it involves acknowledging failures. However, these experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, teaching me about values and principles. Material possessions hold little significance, and it is up to me alone to decide what I love and who I am. Home is within me, and love is meant to be lived for those we may love the least. By believing in ourselves, we prove our worth to others and ourselves.
This reflective and insightful journey indexed the results from identifying my innate interests and character traits to instill a deep understanding of potential pathways I can venture into in the ever-changing future through my assets and skills. These results suggest a lot of positivity about me and what I can focus on for the future ahead. But the most important insight this provides me is that this journey is not one limited to five weeks. It is one tailored for a lifetime. Understanding oneself does not have a fixed time period. I have the leading trait of having a constant need to be busy. This can, in the long run, develop into a highly valuable skill for helping me set targets for myself in the future and work towards the same. The best part of personal development is that through the right approach, one can undergo a complete metamorphosis.
In the future, internal and external changes will have significant implications in my life. If I mirror confidence and patience, I will be successful in many ways. By the interview, I expressed surprising changes within myself. I have the potential to accomplish future goals as I am a combination of a cherished past, inspired present, and desired future. Understanding people, motives, and relationships will lead to my development.
