The believe that Education is the most powerful tool that human beings can use to change the world and serve their communities has been instilled in me. It is this conviction and the natural love for science and mathematics that made me believe that Electrical Engineering was the most suitable career for me. My pursuit for academic excellence is driven by the fact that I’m a good planner and at the same time a team player. Challenges that are facing my community can be tackled through application of skills acquired academically but also making sure that people are placed in careers that are fulfilling. I am an optimist and always stays motivated even in the middle of frustrations and this is as a result of my positive attitude towards life in general. In addition to that, I am always patient and willing to learn through experience. I am guided by the need to solve societal challenges through investment in technology and human resource and academics play a key role in making this possible.
My desire for graduate studies was sparked by most events that took place during my undergraduate level studies. The exposure I got while undertaking my Bachelors degree served as an eye open and lay the foundation for my desire to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering. Various theories and practices during this time ignited the urge in me and that is why I sought to understand the world of Electrical Engineering at a higher level. This was further cultivated when I started attending seminars facilitated by the University and when I was also involved in Undergraduate research. I am therefore interested in a wide range of topics and furthering my knowledge of different concepts and applying the knowledge in my practice. My graduate studies at this great institution will provide me with advanced skills in Electrical Engineering as way of ensuring that I am part of great problem solvers and also contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of Engineering.
My four years at Wuhan University of Technology, I was able to gain skills and qualifications necessary to be a graduate student. This can be seen in a number of activities that I was involved in during this period. I volunteered during the youth Olympics in summer held in Nanjong China. My work involved collaborating with other team members to secure food for participants during the event. This was an open position and a learning experience because I was able to interact with people from around the world and also experience different cultures. To add on that, I have also volunteered as a teacher in Chinese schools within the San Francisco Bay area assisting students to read and write Chinese language. Volunteering has been my way of giving back to the society for what I have received over the years. I am also a committee member of the Chinese Union of University of Missouri, Columbia. My duties entail assisting freshmen adapt to the new college life and also improve relationship among members of the Union.
Conducting research at undergraduate level has greatly enhanced my skills as far as research methods are concerned and at the same time increased my desire to excel academically. This required me to apply knowledge gained from classroom setting to come up with problem-solving strategies to address research questions and also yield information that leads to betterment of our society. The level of accountability and responsibility has also increased due to the fact that I have been able to engage in fieldwork that was quite involving. I look forward to applying all these techniques during my graduate studies and remaining an active student. My goal as a Master’s student is to make a direct contribution to the field of Electrical Engineering and also using the knowledge obtained to make our society even better. The vast field of Electrical Engineering offers me so many choices when it comes to narrowing down and this is why I seek to remain an active student in the field and carry out more research.
Following graduate school, there are a number of things that I would like to involve myself in and apply the knowledge gained from the field of Electrical Engineering. First of all, I would like to establish a consulting career in the field of Electrical Engineering. The knowledge and problem solving skills acquired throughout graduate school will be put to use and at the same time provide an array of solutions to different problems. Electrical Engineers are faced with problems that need consultation most of the times and this is where my knowledge will be put to use. In addition to practicing as a consultant, I also seek to be approved and listed as a professional Engineer in this particular field. This will mean getting my professional practice license from the relevant bodies and using it thereafter to serve my community in the most professional way. Lastly, I also seek to further my research in the area of applied electrical engineering and publish it in academic journals as a way of contributing to the bod7y of knowledge in Engineering.
