Before I did the reading I didn’t have a clear understanding about time management, procrastination, and understanding direction, I found that they mean a lot more than I thought. This was clear when I took the time management quiz, I scored 76, in each category I got between 9 and 14 out of 20. When reading “How to Stop Procrastinating” by Kelci Lynn Lucier, she helps to understand how we can stop procrastination and gives us helpful hints or notes to help us manage our time. For example, she tells how we need to have a “time management system” that will work for us then use that for a month until we can get the swing of it or it becomes a habit. This is something that I can really could use just because I don't have a routine down for myself, I pretty much wing it. In all of the articles I read they stressed how important it is to be organized. Personally, I am not organized at all. I try really hard by having a planner and writing down when things are due but I don't always look at it. I recently started to use my phone calendar more so I can be more organized in both my personal and in my school life.
Another essential part of doing well in online college is making sure we understand and follow directions. When we are in a physical class we have teachers right there to explain and to show us what he/she wants from their class. When you are taking an online class it is so much more important for us to read everything the teacher post, if we don’t we won’t know what the teacher is asking of us or what the assignment is . I have a real problem not reading all the directions sometimes, I either get bored of what I am reading or I think I know what it is asking of me. I need to remember that it’s not a race I have all the time I need to read and understand what the teacher is asking me or what I need to learn. This was really evident when I was reading “Can You Follow Instructions” by Prof. Howard R. Lurie, Villanova Law School, I started to read the instruction but as I read I found myself trying to do the exercise. If this was a real assignment I would of failed just of the face that I wanted to get it over and done. This exercise helps you to think about what will happen if we don’t follow what we are given.
To sum up I have learned so much about myself and how I need to improve on being more attentive and focused because even the smallest detail can throw you off. While reading these articles I have found that I have set more goals and made a time management plan to be more proficient while doing my online classes.
