Time is the most valuable and priceless thing in our lives, yet most of us take it for granted. Time management is a great tool for reaching success in life and is effectively used by goal setting, prioritizing goals and activities, communication and delegation. In the nursing profession; time management is important. If nurses are not constantly practicing time management and wasting time, patients do not have the best quality care, which would usually be given. If student nurses learn time management in school, it teaches them essential qualifications for entering clinical settings and offering high-quality service in the future. when time management is efficiently used, stress will be reduced, increased creativity, and self-efficiency. Not using time management effectively, his can reduce motivation, causing academic failure, which leads to academic dropout. Many nursing students do not have adequate the academic motivation, and one of the reasons can be stress and anxiety.
According to research, students with optimal skills of time management will be able to manage time effectively even after graduation and in their professional life. Time management plays a huge role in stress and if you do not know how to handle it you can feel rushed and overwhelmed with an assignment. If a deadline is coming up and you don’t have good time management you can also become nervous and worried about how long it will take to complete the task. When you learn to manage your time, you no longer subject yourself to that level of stress, and it’s also better for your health, mind and for the next assignment you get.
Most people agree that their state of mind affects their performance, very few people give it consideration when it comes to real-world application. (Joyner, 2006). People don’t go to work and prioritize their positive attitude, yet they consider their workload and time priority as if it were their child. However, our state of mind is what causes, and cures stress. It is easy to fall into a negative headspace when faced with time restraints. You can cause your own stress no matter what problem you face or time restraint you have (Hill & Slattery, 1986).
If there is no deadline, it is easy to put something off. For example, if your friends are coming to visit, cleaning your house becomes the priority because it has a deadline. If you don’t have an urgency to clean your house, you can put off until tomorrow (Jaffe, 2013). Educational institutions almost always have deadlines, however; if you want to manage your time correctly their deadlines may not be appropriate. For proof just ask the students, many of them will say, that they do it the night before, also called, “cramming”. This is an example of poor time management skills and you usually don’t get the best results. If you want to improve your time management skills, create a new date and or goal for your assignment. Instead of cramming the night before the actual date, you can cram for your new deadline and you will still be done well in advance. You can get your peers to edit your assignment, which will help you get better marks.
