At Operation Impact, one of my favorite presentations was the Rush Copley Nurse’s. She explained the steps after a person in a car crash would have to go through. She passed around different medical equipment used in the ER and explained what they are used for. The nurse also showed us many pictures, some graphic, to help show us the process she goes through as a trauma nurse. I enjoyed her presentation because she was extremely informative and professional. She knew what she was talking about and she was very passionate about it. I enjoyed how she had visual aids with her to show us. Her presentation was engaging and I would like to learn more about ER nurses.
Another favorite presentations of mine was the Oswego Police Officers. They showed many statistics about teenage driving. They also touched on the importance of road safety and how to handle the law. They taught us how to properly pull over for a marked police car and what to do when the officer is talking to you at the car. They explained how important it is to obey traffic laws and to make good decisions. I really liked how funny and lighthearted the Police Officers were. They knew what was going to get the crowd to pay attention and stay engaged. I liked how they took a serious topic and put humor into it. The visuals were informative and gave us a lot of information. I thought it was a great presentation.
I also enjoyed the Kendall County Coroner’s presentation. She explained how an autopsy is performed, what instruments they use and what information they can gain from it. She talked about what a coroner does at the scene of the crash. She also showed us pictures of different crashes and what can happen to you or others if you aren’t being safe. The coroner was extremely informative and provided a very sensitive view of the consequences of unsafe driving. And by touching on this sensitive topic, she was able to turn it into a learning opportunity for all of us. She had a very engaging attitude and made it easy to listen and pay attention to her. She was very educated on the topic and seemed very professional when giving her presentation. It was very interesting and gave me a new perspective on unsafe driving.
Overall, I thought Operation Impact was a good method to show young, teenage drivers how a single decision could change your life forever. How a wrong move could cost you and those around you their lives. And to show how important it is to drive safely. I would definitely recommend that all beginner drivers see this presentation and It could change how they see the road and how to make choices while driving.
