Introduction

It does not seem like a real issue to people, but it is becoming more and more serious daily. The more time the youth is allowed to spend on Minecraft, the more society is going to end up in doom. Minecraft is not a bad game on its own; it is actually a great game, created to let people drift away from their real lives a bit and live in a virtual world where all is possible. The younger you are when you begin playing, the more obsessed with it you are destined to become. Parents should look at this issue and treat it as critically as it really is. The mature people that play this game know what they are doing and have enough age to know when they are spending too much time with the same thing. The true cause of Minecraft overdose is the parents allowing it because young people will never be able to guide themselves into living healthy lives without an adult there to help them.

Impact on Youth

According to Smith (2020), Minecraft, the game, is not only impacting the youth through the game itself; it is also impacting through other forms like YouTube videos. Society finds it normal that kids watch YouTube because they are making the creators of the videos rich by the views. But when you see it through what the future may become, this is when the negative effects kick in. Kids spend more than four hours on the computer, phones, even tablets watching Minecraft-related content. One day when they are all adults, they will be so into the game itself that they might forget what life is really all about. They will not know how a plant grows in real life, what the sun looks like in real life; all their lives will be revolving around a game that is not a tad real.

Commercial and Social Aspects

Some people may argue that an overdose of Minecraft can actually help the market because they sell Minecraft toys, movies, and more (Johnson, 2021). In reality, kids are so addicted to Minecraft they do not even need these toys, because they could just use them on the computer; it would not be necessary. The youth can also stay so close to a screen for so long that their eyesight may start to be affected. They could also encounter problems socializing at school and/or in public because all they know is how to build a castle with blocks. Violence is also something parents could argue against the game, which does not seem too major. Killing a chicken is not as bad as it seems in the game; they sort of try flying away, and when they die, they just fall and disappear, then goodies appear. But multi-player Minecraft has developed games like hunger games and survival games in which you do have to kill to stay alive. Depending on your age when you begin to play, Minecraft can have different effects on you.

Conclusion

Society needs to stop ignoring this and actually speak to parents about the effects of allowing this. It is not right or humane to do this. Kids need to go outside and build stuff from dirt and whatever they find, not through a virtual game that could erase with a click of a button. Engaging with the real world and participating in physical activities is crucial for the holistic development of children (Brown & Lee, 2019). By fostering a balanced lifestyle, parents can ensure that their children grow up with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them.
