Recently, McDonalds Golden arches have been tarnished due to food safety scandals in China and some labor issues in America. As a result, the stock prices of the company has severely lagged due to poor sales growth. In order for the company to restore the Golden arches, there is a need for the company to come up with strategies so as to chart a new course. As it has been evident, there is an increasing demand for good food that has been grown by sustainable, fair producers who are humane. In accordance with Agenda 2020, McDonalds has however been on the forefront of ensuring that they work on the problems that they have faced before through working with NGOs and other business partners that value sustainability and green forms of food production. The goals that McDonalds have set are however open to different forms of interpretations and that is why there is need for them to formulate objectives that are not open to interpretation. Some of the recommendations that the company has to consider may include;
Purchasing all of the seafood that would be sold in its outlets from green suppliers. McDonalds has already set up procedures to be followed while sourcing its ingredients. Regarding the provision of good food, McDonalds should purchase its palm oil, coffee, and fiber based on the suppliers who are certified sustainable sources.
In terms of mitigating the impacts of food scandals in china, McDonalds should place a huge emphasis on partnering with other businesses that have been certified, have clean sourcing of their ingredients and are transparent in their own right. According to Christopher (56), the foods should be produced locally, be hormone free, grass-fed and organic.
McDonalds should also be able to partner with other businesses in the fast food industry to come up with or create a global Round Table sustainable Beef so that the value of the beef that is developed is environmentally sound, economically viable and socially responsible (Eric, 34).
In regard to environmental, animal welfare, and socio economic factors, by partnering with non-governmental organizations, McDonalds can better address the issues of climate change, freshwater conservation, wildlife habitats, land conversion and the use of proper pharmaceuticals to maintain the welfare and healthcare of animals.
