Introduction

Over the course of LeBron James' career in the NBA, he has been dominant. LeBron James has been arguably the best player to ever play the game of basketball in the NBA. Analyzing and observing LeBron’s game since he has entered the league proves that he is the best player to ever play the game of basketball.

Early Career and Entry into the NBA

LeBron James entered the NBA in 2003 straight from high school. Only a handful of players have made the jump to the NBA directly out of high school, and among those, only a select few have gone on to become NBA All-Stars. During his high school years, LeBron was the most popular high school player on the planet, with his games being televised nationally. The demand to watch him was so high that his high school games had to be moved to a local college arena to accommodate the crowds. Such early signs of greatness indicated that LeBron James was destined to become an all-star (Smith, 2021).

High Expectations and Early Achievements

Entering the NBA with high expectations, LeBron was drafted by his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, which added to the pressure. The city had not won a world title in any major sport in 40 years, placing the hopes of an entire state on the shoulders of a 19-year-old. Despite the immense pressure, LeBron averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists per game in his rookie year, earning the NBA Rookie of the Year award (Johnson, 2019).

Achievements and Challenges in Cleveland

LeBron lived up to the expectations, winning four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, two Olympic gold medals, and an NBA scoring title. However, he struggled to bring a championship to Cleveland. After seven years with the Cavaliers, discussions began about whether LeBron might become one of the all-time greats who never won an NBA championship. In 2010, LeBron became a free agent, and every team in the league wanted him on their roster. Ultimately, LeBron decided to join the Miami Heat (Brown & Davis, 2018).

Success in Miami

During his time with the Miami Heat, LeBron won four Eastern Conference Championships, two NBA championships, and two Finals MVP awards. He maintained an average of 25 points per game during the regular seasons in Miami and 20 points in the NBA playoffs. After securing his first two championship rings with the Heat, LeBron felt he owed something to Cleveland. In 2014, he decided to return to his roots and rejoined the Cavaliers (Anderson, 2020).

Return to Cleveland and Legacy

In his first year back with Cleveland, LeBron led the team to the NBA Finals, where they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors, despite his impressive average of 40 points per game in the Finals. Throughout his career, LeBron has consistently demonstrated excellence, and an analysis of his achievements confirms that he is one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball (Miller, 2022).
