The government controls parts of our lives in many ways. The Government, built by our fore fathers, is a grand establishment built by and for the people of this great nation. The government provides justice and protection for the citizens whom it serves. The government makes many Americans proud; however, some people are weary of this organization because of the tremendous amount of power at its fingertips. Is it possible that our government officials could lie to the public? If the president lied to the country when he said "I did not have sexual relationships with that woman" in the year 1999, then is it possible that our government could have already lied to its citizens fifty years earlier? Some people believe that the government has lied about American astronauts landing on the moon, while other people disagree.
Some people believe that the lunar missions were a fraud or a conspiracy to make the United States look superior to other countries. One question by some is about the dust on the moon. Since the moon has been in the atmosphere for millions of years, then there should be a substantial amount of dust present on the surface of the moon. If there is so much dust on the moon then why didn't the astronauts feet sink further in the dust in the pictures that have been released to the public? In the place where the lunar module landed, with its powerful rockets, why is there no sign of the dust under the lunar module being disturbed? The powerful rockets should have produced some kind of crater under the module. When the rockets performed, the dust should have flown onto the module's landing gear. Some dismiss this theory because the Lunar module might have landed in an area on the moon that had a rock surface. In this case there would be a small amount of dust. This is a possible explanation of the light amount of dust in the pictures of the footprints (Red Zero online 1).
Another question that arises by some people is why the dust did not float for a long time when the rockets were being used. If the gravity on the moon is so much less than that of earth, why did the dust settle so quickly? Some say that the reason the dust settled so quickly was because the surface of the moon acts as a vacuum. In a vacuum there is no wind resistance, so the dust would not float in the air. This is why some say that the dust fell so quickly (Red Zero online 1).
Some people claim the moon landings were a hoax because the radiation in space would have harmed the astronauts. In earth the Van Allen Belt around the earth that diverts radiation protects us. In order to go to the moon, a person must pass the belt. This is an interesting argument. How could NASA have protected the astronauts who traveled through this radiation? The answer is that they didnt protect them. Scientists proclaim that the astronauts were exposed to 1 rem of radiation. In order to get sick from radiation, someone must be exposed to 25 rem of radiation. The radiation is not fatal until one reaches 500 rem (Red Zero online 1).
On the moon, temperatures reach a blistering 280 degrees Fahrenheit. This is because of the extremely long lunar day that is approximately two weeks. If the moons surface is this hot, then the film that was used would surely become too hot and basically burn up. How could these burnt negatives be developed into real photographs of the moon landing? This theory is easily dismissed. This is true that the film would have been destroyed if exposed to the extreme heat, but the truth is that the film was never exposed to these conditions. All of the landings on the moon took place in the lunar mornings or evenings and avoided the extreme heat. On the moons surface it does get extremely hot, but if a person or object is in the shade or protected from direct sunlight then it is not hot at all. This temperature variation takes place because there is no air present on the surface that can insulate the heat. Since the Camera film was inside of the camera the whole time, it was never exposed to the extreme heat (Red Zero online 1).
Is it possible that the Government of the United States and NASA lied to the world? As stated by astronaut Brian OLeary, who worked alongside Armstrong and Aldrin for many years, If some of the film was spoiled, its remotely possible they [NASA] may have shot some scenes in a studio environment to avoid embarrassment. If a former astronaut can make a statement like this, then it is hard for people to say that this is not a legitimate argument (Aulis Online 2).
