Dog Bites: Statistics and Treatment

A dogs bites account for more than 90% of all animal bites 4.5 million dog bites occur each year in the united states more than 27,000 victims require surgery. Most injures involve deep beneath the skin including muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels. And wound cleaning decrease the risk of infection. And about 25,000 victims undergo surgery each year, and only 31 people died from causes related to dog bites in 2013.

And children are more likely to be bitten by a dog than others age groups. And children are more likely presented for medical attention. Victims that are bitten need to be taken far away from the dog to prevent more attack injuries and be sent to a medical examiner. Information should be obtained from the dog’s owner about the dog’s rabies immunization status and if not possible hospital, animal control will help gather any required information.
